Dumfries the largest town in this part of Scotland and stepped in history especially with an interest in Robert Burns. The Robert Burns centre, Burns House, St. Micheal's church and Robert burns Mausoleum, good shopping and very good selection of restaurants, 'Casa Mia' being the best. The personal tour by the gentleman at St.Micheal's church was the highlight of our... More

Dumfries has lots on offer to satisfy a range of interests from Robert Burns, history, wildlife, shopping and architecture. Most activities are within walking distance and conveniently located close to places to stay and eat. Good central location for days out exploring neighbouring areas of parks and watersides. .

Little alley ways abound, amid the genial hospitality of both passing locals and resident shop keepers. Never have I met such a friendly bunch. Long live the High Street say I! There... More

The town center is old world/picturesque and worth going to. Be sure to go to the visitors center on the street by the river to get a parking disc. The parking disc is a unique system allowing free parking for the period of time shown on the parking sign.

there are some good shops (the usual Marks & Spencer, Debenhams etc), but also lots of little gift shops which gave variety to Dumfries shopping experience. Take a visit to Monica Browns for bags, silk scarves, jewellery, shop owner very helpful

A wonder gem of a restored Victorian Walled Garden. The one acre ornamental garden is planted with a wide range of hardy plants suited to the Scottish climate, beautifully created and cared for by one very welcoming lady who gave us coffee and talked about the restoration and showed photos of how it had been carried out. Not suitable for... More

Parkihg is free as long as you have a disc and you can collect one from the shops. White sands is a good spot to park and you can cross many of the bridges that takes you over the river Nith. Shops are in the main centre wich is closed off to cars. Robert Burns statue can be found here.... More
