Ewan McClure's excellent exhIbition made our trip to Kirkcudbright well worthwhile. Our visit started with a magnificent cream tea in the cafe before taking our time to enjoy the exhibition, a mixture of portraits and still life’s which displayed a wonderful talent. Ewan is a local artist and currently “artist in residence“ at Broughton House.

OK, Kirkcudbright is the artists' town and the gallery complements this theme. The gallery is well laid out with the emphasis on quality and not quantity. It does its job well in showing off the work of the Glasgow Girls and Boys contributing to the Glasgow Style. Above the ground floor gallery there is a cafe and on the top floor there a short film showing the discovery of the Viking Horde. The film is a 'must see'.

A fabulous gallery showcasing the history of local artists at Kirkcudbright with a really interesting temporary exhibition called “Utopia” upstairs. Beautifully renovated building with great cafe. A must if you’re visiting Kirkcudbright.

Having looked round the Stewartry Museum we headed next to the Galleries. One floor is a permanent gallery of paintings with plenty of seats to sit to view and listen to recorded information. Upstairs was the temporary exhibition on 'Utopia' which was so interesting, really thought-provoking, and amusing. We spent ages looking round this gallery. We walked down a floor to the lovely modern cafe and had a very nice lunch. Definitely worth a visit.
