Cross the River Dee by boat to visit this enchanting castle on its own island. Once the bustling base of its creator, Archibald the Grim, it is now an ideal spot for exploring, picnicking and perhaps, painting. The island is rich with wildflowers in...more

Simply the best, beautiful scenery, great birdwatching. The short, small boat ride was fabulous and the person who drove the boat was incredibly friendly. Every time we went we saw the humongous osprey nest. I couldn’t recommend this place enough.
Lovely castle in a scenic setting. Think the walk from the carpark was longer than they indicated but isn't too far to the small boat which takes you across to the castle. Our party was all adults but I'm sure children would love having to...More
A long walk from the carpark to the loch ,(800m) unfortunately it was closed for xmas holiday when we went so the boats werent on to take you over to the castle , But we plan to return as it looks like a fabulous castle.

We decided to follow the GPS directions to Threave Castle, which actually took us to the opposite side. Unfortunately, we ended up in the drive of a local farmer rather than the expected parking lot, so we went back out on the road again, only...More

The Osprey centre is a small building adjacent to the car parking area for the castle. There is small toilet block there too. Just Park up, wander in, buy tickets and ask any questions you have as the staff all seem very helpful. We were there last week and when I get a min I will leave a review - all positive and well worth the trip. Enjoy!
