Starting from National Trust site at Grey Mare's Tail, the views are superb, the solitude is magic, and a good not-too-difficult climb to White Coomb is there for the taking. Poles are a good idea for this walk even if one doesn't normally use them....More

Walk up from Grey Mare's tail and look forward to the magnificent views. You need good and comfortable walking shoes/boots and can be muddy if recent rain. The views, as well as the walk up the hill, will take your breath away.

Great walk and the waterfall is beautiful. Strongly recommend. 10 miles from Moffat and worth the effort.

I climbed this hill from the Grey Mare's tail car park and as described it is dififficult to cross the tail burn in spate and much care is needed. I crossed the heather to climb Upper Tarnberry and from there it is easy to follow...More
