We went up to have a look even though it was a bit foggy early January and very glad we did! There was a guide there who said it was too misty to see anything through the telescope, but would we like a demonstration of what we would have seen if the sky was clear. He gave us a fascinating, very... More

I booked an event for the evening where we were given an informative lecture and display of what to look for in the heavens over the next month. The evening sky was projected onto a large curved screen and the staff were so enthusiastic I was enthralled. Talk of the space race and clips of astronauts entering space stations hooked... More

We found it a great place to visit, But be aware its a bit of a hard to get to the top of the hill, the only down side was it was not in use on the day but the guy we spoke to was very knowledgeable and listening to him i wish i had £3 millon to give him... More

If you need something free or very cheap to do with kids check out the Saturday afternoon events at the Observatory. As well as being a really cool place to visit, it's atop a steep hill in Balgay Park, which means the kids get fresh air and exercise just getting to it. They will learn lots, have a great time,... Great visitor attraction if the conditions are right. Probably best on a clear winter's night when there would be loads of stars and planets to see. Staff are great, knowledgeable and very enthusiastic.

I was only here for a Dunfermline match at Dundee Utd but my friend has a degree in Astonomy. To me it was a pleasant walk past cypresses, redwoods, cedars etc but he told me about the modern telescope and Victorian one.He knew that Sir Patrick Moore opened what we see today and that Apollo Astronaut Scott had visited.Presumably not the Engineer on... Took my boys to a free event hosted by the guys at the Observatory and they got to look at the sun through a special telescope. They had a great time and the man was fab with the kids, making sure everyone got a turn.

We were lucky enough to visit on the last day of March(it is only open part of the year). It is a free experience to look at the stars and gain knowledge from the staff. Beautiful location overlooking the city and the water.
