- Helen A1 contributionBest Spot for local and unique giftsMy friend and I stumbled across this shop while on holiday in Edinburgh and it is the most amazing spot! We found so many unique items for ourselves and to take back home to loved ones. I love that everything is by local artisans and that you get to shop items that are memorable. Everyone in the shop was so friendly and knowledgeable, I highly recommend making this an essential stop while in Edinburgh!Visited July 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 24 July 2024

- Dona ZLecce, Italy7 contributionsA big part of the businessA very special place. Over a hundred artists inside, really beautiful designs (I bought almost all souvenirs for relatives and friends here... And also something for me). I recommend to pop in, for sure you will find something for youVisited July 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 31 July 2024
- Kirstan B2 contributionsGreat shop for local art and goods! This is such a wonderful shop! Features tons of local handmade art and goods - prints, jewelry, pottery, clothing, bags, pins, and lots of cool trinkets. (It was such a breath of fresh air compared to the typical souvenir shops that all have the same stuff that isn't made locally.) And the pricing was very reasonable, lots of affordable but still very cool/practical items. I purchased a cool handmade makeup pouch and it makes me smile each time I use it! Definitely worth a stop!Visited July 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 3 August 2024

Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This shop had to be my favorite part of visiting Edinburgh. I probably spent a good 1.5 hours looking through all of the sections for each artist. I ended up buying many items from different artists. Each piece felt very special and unique. You can tell that each artist is committed to their craft. Highly recommend a visit here, you won’t regret it!

Wonderful shopping site. I love to find one of a kind ( not mass produced) items, and the design exchange was a treasure trove of goods. I shopped online to see what type of products were listed, and when I visited in October I bought those items and others. I particularly like the Hebridean pendants and earrings, but also prints and textile items.
This is a shop worth visiting on another holiday, as I’m sure there would be different items on display.

On a recent trip to Edinburgh, we were keen to find somewhere selling locally sourced Edinburgh memorabilia and souvenirs so that we could give something back to the local community. Our tour guide suggested The Scottish Design Exchange and this led to over an hour of enjoyable browsing through a large number of products from local artists. The items we bought were reasonably priced, good quality and now evoke fond memories of our trip whenever we use them, thanks so much!

Love, love, love this place. They have a huge selection of local artists with decor items as well as tourist interest items. So many artists within, maybe almost 75. Fun, as well as culturally significant items made by local artists feel good about your shopping! And fabulously helpful staff.

I really wanted to see Scottish Design and Craft and found it here. Next time I go to Edinburgh I will bring enough space in my suitcase to buy and take something back that is bigger than a key ring. Excellent. Every city should have one.

Spend your money here! Support local artists instead of the awful souvenir stores. Interesting and fun pieces! Great folks running the place. They also suggested going to their other store which is more of a market in an old church. Both are much better than the typical souvenir stores! Go you won’t be sorry.

Gorgeous shop with such lovely and unique items. Absolute must visit for tourists. Forget all the shops you see selling mass produced products for your gifts; go to this place instead and get something special and truly Scottish, knowing that you are supporting local artists. We bought some lovely gifts from here and treated ourselves to a couple of things too. Can’t wait to visit again when we come to Scotland next year

The Design Exchange is very conveniently located in the mall which house the Royal Yacht Britannia. An eclectic mix of art, photography, jewelry, clothing, et al. I found my painting of Ben Nevis and Scottish mountain scenes and my wife found just the necklace she was looking for.

This shop shows and sells the best of artistic design.
I was simply captivated and I'm a bloke who hates shopping with a passion.
There are many quirky things that catches your imagination, like a whole exhibit of necklaces made out of bike inner rubber tubing that were just stunning and clever.
A shop with a difference.
