What an interesting find this is. Inside Old Calton Cemetery is a this monument that stands in tribute to the Scotsman who fought in the American Civil War. The monument depicts a standing figure of Abraham Lincoln atop a small plinth. Below at the feet of Lincoln, a freed slave giving thanks. Apparently, this monument is the only one to the American Civil War outside of the United States.

The Scottish-American Soldiers Monument is quite an unusual structure. It depicts the standing figure of US President Abraham Lincoln and at his feet is a freed slave giving thanks. The slave holds a book and this indicates that he is not only free but educated as well. There is an American flag and a few names inscribed too.The Memorial was erected in August 1893, to honour those Scots who fought in the American Civil War. It is apparently the only statue of Lincoln in Scotland and this is the only Monument to the American Civil War outside the USA. It's quite a moving monument. The Monument is in the old Calton Burial Ground, a graveyard on Calton Hill. It can be accessed from Waterloo Street at the point where it becomes Regent Street. Waterloo Street is a continuation of Princes Street. This is a spot worth visiting.

I was surprised to see Abraham Lincoln in Edinburgh Scotland. I was just walking down Princes-street toward Carlton and came upon this tribute to Scottish-American solders.
