Great day tour. Tour guide (Jaime) was really knowledgable and friendly. Totally recommend it. The tour lasted from 9:00 to 18:30 with lots of historical information, trivia and folklore songs which added to the experience. Jaime had a good narration pace and is a really smooth driver. The only thing that can be improved is the time of the stops... More

Just returned from Edinburgh and had a lovely day tour while there with Highland Experience Tours. We did a tour that went to Sterling Castle, Wallace Monument and Rosslyn Chapel. Our tour operator was friendly and so informative. We got to hear the real story of William Wallace and Robert the Bruce while driving to each location. Sterling Castle was... More

Fantastic experience with beautiful scenery. Our guide, Rob Hall, was outstanding and put in extra effort that made the entire trip so much better. He is friendly, personable and is especially great for chatty people.

We went on the 1 day tour of Loch Ness, Glen Coe and the Highlands and it was by far our favorite day out of our entire 12 day vacation! We learned so much about the area's rich history from our tour guide and made a few extra scenic stops. In just 1 day you really cover a large part... More

We used this company for two different day trips. I would highly recommend the one day trip that visits the Scottish Borders, Melrose Abbey, Alnwick Castle and Bamburgh Castle. The Melrose Abbey ruins are beautiful, and Harry Potter fans will enjoy Alnwick Castle which provided some scenes for the movies. Bamburgh, on the North Sea coast evokes images of Viking... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
