About
Edinburgh's famous fossil shop was established in 1987 by Stan Wood, a self-taught fossil hunter. Since then we've gone on to forge an international reputation for beautiful and fascinating fossils from all around the world, as well as a wide range of minerals, meteorites and jewellery. We go out of our way to hand pick our stock as much as possible, and try to get as close to the original sources as we can to ensure we always have a strong selection of great value, high quality fossils for sale. Popular favourites include ammonites, dinosaur and shark teeth, fossil fish, trilobites and mammoth hair. We welcome browsers, and are used to answering questions, so feel free to take your time.

Really interesting little shop with lots to look at! My boyfriend is really interested in fossils and me with crystals and this shop has both! Some really great pieces if you are an avid collector also. Definitely have a walk down here!

Came upon this brilliant shop on the way up to the Scottish museum from Grassmarket. The shop is crammed with a cornucopia of delights. Some expensive out of my range but good to look at items along side very affordable gems.My small purchase a sand anemone was treated with individual care and attention by the owner who carefully wrote the info on a small card with every item purchased. Even if you only have a limited time on the way up to Bobby's grave please call in.

Fantastic selection of fossils and I couldn't help going in on both days of our trip. I came away with a great haul of fossils from various dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures.
Highly recommend visiting.
Great selection of minerals, crystals and jewellery too.

Thanks for the review, many Alastairs. Glad you found the place hard to resist. I come here pretty much every weekday, but I'm still not tired of the place.

Although you might never find your way out of the basement... Actually, that sounds fairly sinister now I read it back. Thanks for the review, Jolly.

We happened to stumble upon this place on our last day in Edinburgh and couldn't resist having a browse. It is exactly what it says it is, fossils and rocks from around the world which you can buy.

Put simply if this kid of thing interests you then its a great place to visit, if not its a shop with stones in that will bore you senseless.

Sorry, Stevie, missed this at the time. Thanks for taking the time to review, and for making me aware there could be people who find stones boring. I reckon I could change their mind, though.

This place simply blew my mind. The array and the number of fossils was soooo impressive, it was hard to leave with just a few items. But I did and now they sit in one of my displays and I get to brag about how old they are.
And the staff there were very knowledgeable and friendly.
Highly recommend a visit.

We LOVED this shop! It is so fascinating and informative. It left us wanting to purchase a number of items. We'll definitely revisit Edinburgh just for this shop!!

Unfortunate I couldn’t go back to the shop to purchase something so someone did it on my behalf. He has a collection of amazing specimens for sale - spinosaurus, other dinosaur, shark teeth, crystals and precious stones, trilobites, ammonites, etc. Prices are quite ok, and I think the shop is trustworthy (I did not buy fossils from the flea market as I didn’t know the sellers or where they got their specimens from).
