Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.

I went to visit their shop and made an order to be delivered in the US . I was thinking of buying a gucci bag from edinburgh but when I saw their handmade bags , I decided to get one instead and Oh boy !! I was delighted to see my bag customized according to my needs and the work that they put it surpass my gucci $ LV bags in a fraction of price ! I would definitely recommend them and will be back to order some more in the future ! The quality of the leather is very very nice and the gentleman in the store was ever accommodating to work with my complicated design but they did not disappoint.

The shop keepers were friendly and proud of their craft. The store had a nice choice of belts, bags and coats. The store was unassuming, but really creative in their product designs.

Mackenzie Leather is a wonderful shop to visit, see expert craftsmen in action, buy from the shelves or order something especially designed for you.
I finally decided on a clutch with optional strap and it arrived this week. It is beautiful. As always with Mackenzie, I was guided through the ordering process with expert advice. Thank you once again Mackenzie Leather. I love my new bag.

Beautiful products, craftsmanship and very friendly. I had a rucksack made and shipped, every step I felt attended to in my bag’s journey. I love this store, I come every visit to Edinburgh!

I learned about Mackenzie Leather from Scotland journal in 2022. I immediately went to the website and designed my first bag -- a navy rucksack. It was stunning.
I planned a trip to Edinburgh for June 2023. I checked into my hotel and headed to Mackenzie Leather. What a beautiful experience. I met Simon and the rest of the folks and had a lovely chat with them. Simon and I designed my second Mackenzie bag and I just received it. It, too, is stunning. The bags are made with loving care. These bags are made to be handed down from generation to generation. They are meant to be used and shown off. They are a perfect accessory for just about any occasion. The quality is beyond anything you will purchase in a department store. I encourage anyone who loves leather products to stop in and see Simon, Archie, and the rest of the artists! You won't regret it.

The team did a fantastic job customising a belt to use as a new strap for an old leather bag of mine. I needed it quite quickly and they got it sorted and posted to me in just a few days. The the leather and buckle are great quality and the craftsmanship is excellent.

I have purchased a purse for my wife and an Officers Briefcase for me from Mackenzie recently. They are both outstanding quality and I couldn't be any happier with them. I visited the shop in person when I made the purchases and the staff there are amazing. The experience there was well beyond excellent. I HIGHLY recommended buying from these people if you want the best quality and service.

It’s a seeming rarity to find a place like this where you can see the craftsmen at their work. There’s no question as to the origin or quality of their products. I was able to choose a beautiful custom bag for my wife as a gift. The staff was supremely helpful explaining my options and helping me choose a bag that will last a lifetime and that my wife absolutely loves. I browsed the shop looking for a gift for my wife. I then set out on a two week motorcycle trip around the highlands and looking for just the right gift. It was clear my choice needed to come from this shop, and they even remembered be two weeks later.

I cannot say enough about the quality of their work! From help with design and customization, to the actual hand-crafted product, we were beyond happy.
Communication was always open and professional. We live in the US and had no issues with shipping.
I highly recommend stopping in to see their pieces in the showroom and the workshop in person. We met the makers and they were happy to answer questions about their craft. For as excellent as their website is, these pieces are truly best appreciated in person.
I now have a custom heirloom piece that is going to last forever. We will definitely be return customers!

What a delightful shop ! A traditional but up to date shop with glorious leather items. My husband bought a belt, which was tried on him, them adjusted to his waist and completed by a young man who finished it off with such care.
The women’s handbags, weekend bags, briefcases, purses, key rings on display are so beautiful so well made and for what they are a good price. These items will last a lifetime.
