Bottom line up front- if you're looking for puffins and want a world-class tour guide to show them to you up close, go with Haggis Adventures.
Alastair, our tour guide, was a consummate professional who exhibited a wealth of knowledge regarding biology, history, and geology. He expertly guided our tour through Scotland, across numerous ferries, and onto the islands where we got within arms reach of puffins on the cliffs of Lunga.
One of the members of our group sustained an injury on Staffa; Alastair handled the situation calmly and professionally, and arranged for a Coast Guard helicopter to evacuate the victim. I cannot stress enough how his professional and calm demeanor saved the day for that particular person.
Back to puffins, then. This is the place to go to see them... these adorable creatures waddle around and make little happy growling noises, then waddle back into their little puffin holes in the ground. After spending the day with them, go have fish and chips and have Alastair put on some Billy Connoly or sea chanties and drive around the highlands. You won't be disappointed.
