I recently traveled to Edinburgh with my husband, sister and brother-in-law and we booked Experienced Tours for a day trip to Loch Ness and The Highlands. It was without a doubt one of the best private tours we've taken! Alexander was phenomenal. He is extremely knowledgeable about Scotland history, sites and landscapes. The weather was honestly terrible that day (even for Scotland) but he still managed to drive us safely to all our destinations plus an extra stop to a four thousand year old burial site! Most importantly, Alexander is a cool guy and we really enjoyed his company. His van is new, clean and very comfortable. If we are lucky enough to return to Scotland we will definitely book another tour with Alexander!

We had been to Edinburgh a year ago and toured many of the sights in the city so we wanted to see other areas. We choose Sterling Castle and Rosslyn Chapel as main attractions. Our guide Rob made other suggestions to fill the remainder of the day. Like all private tours, this was much more expensive than a ship tour and it could have easily accommodated 6 people which would have made it very economical. We were only able to rustle up the two of us so it turned out to be one of our more expensive tours. That said, the Mercedes van with sliding access doors on both sides and captains chairs in the second row made it very comfortable and easy to get in and out. Rob was a great guide, knowledgeable and friendly. By the end of the day, he seemed like an old friend. His experience shone all day long. He took advantage of other attractions in the area to fill the day and give us the most for our money. We stopped at the Falkirk Wheel and the Kelpies along the way. At the end of the day, he avoided a big traffic jam by giving us a tour of some local neighborhoods. I highly recommend this tour but you need at least 4 people to make is more affordable.

Alexander (Sandy) was our private guide on a whisky day trip from Edinburgh to the Lowland whiskey regions. Experienced Tours picked us up in a new model Mercedes van enabled with wifi and was attuned to our comfort. We went to the Lindores Abbey Distillery, the oldest distillery in Scotland, the Glenturret Distillery, and Deanston Distillery. Sandy enhanced our experience greatly with his witty humor, local history, and knowledge of whiskey distilleries. He was very personable that was a pleasure to be around and we really enjoyed our time with him and it was one of our most memorable days on our trip. Thank you Sandy and Experienced Tours!

Alexander was a wonderful tour guide. Our personal tour was designed to see locations that were of interest due to connections in our ancestry. He arrived promptly at 9 and off we went to our first location Glamis Castle. He provided us with information along the route and ensured that we were assisted into the Castle and waited patiently while we took our time on a self guided tour. He also was quite the photographer and ensured that we had beautiful photos standing outside the Castle. Next stop was Laurencekirk, birthplace of my daughter's great-grandmother. We had a photo of the family when she was a little girl and Alexander was instrumental in finding the location despite the fact that the Gasworks buildings were no longer there. It was very much appreciated. We went off to St. Andrews and a visit to the Old Course. It was a beautiful day and although we unfortunately could not eat at the Tom Morris restaurant as hoped, he did get permission that we could go on the balcony to have a few pics taken and then took us to another fabulous restaurant in St Andrews which we greatly enjoyed. Back to St. Andrews to have our pictures taken on the historical bridge on the 18th hole and then back to Edinburgh.

3 couples spent three marvelous days with Alexander, Sandy, touring areas around Edinburg, the Highlands and Inverness. We were blessed to visit stunningly beautiful natural landscapes, history and experience the culture of Scotland.

Our first day from Glasgow gave us the opportunity to see Lock Lemond, Rannoch Moor and Glencoe with Scotland's 50 shades of green. This area is one of the most breathtakingly beautiful places we have been blessed to visit. Day two was based out of Inverness with a short hike to Rogie Falls, a tour of Eileen Donan Castle, a quick stop at Urquhart Castle, a walk through Culloden Battlefield and ending the day at the Clava Cairns (the site where Claire was first brought back in time for the Outlander fans). If in Scotland, one must visit the insanely beautiful Eileen Donan Castle - there is a reason it is the most photographed castle in Scotland. Our final days was filled with visits to see many historical sites in and around Edinburg. The day started at Linlithgow Palace the birthplace of Mary Queen of the Scots then a tour of Stirling Castle which has the most beautiful gardens. We did a quick tour of Stirling Castle to see the Crown Jewels of Scotland and the Stone of Destiny. Then a little shopping on the Royal Mile.

We can not more highly recommend Experienced Tours and what a blessing to spend this time with the most professional and thoughtful tour guide. We came as strangers but left as friends.

Our group enjoyed and amazing day experiencing the Highlands with our tour guide Michael. He was great at adapting the itinerary to align with our interests, weather, and time constraints. The highlands are absolutely beautiful even in rainy dreary weather. The history and stories he shared along the way amplified the experience and we really enjoyed the lunch spot. Overall it was a great experience that allowed us to to explore more of Scotland outside of Edinburgh.

Private whisky tour is the way to go! Alexander did a zoom meeting to get exactly what we wanted and then tailored a 6 day, 5 night trip exactly to what we wanted and what we didn't know to ask for! 3 nights in Islay with a variety of tours and tastings, then two nights in Aberlour and included a cooperage and distilleries we didn't even know about (but should have). Jamie was our tour guide and also took us to castles, ruins, beach sunsets, etc, while constantly entertaining us with history and stories of old and current Scotland. We visited 11 distilleries plus a couple of Whisky bars during those 6 days. We started in Edinburgh and ended in Glasgow to connect with another tour we had lined up (with a different focus)
Accomodations were superb--a restored mansion on Islay, and a quaint boutique hotel in Aberlour with a whisky collection above all others we saw on this trip. Suggestions for restaurants were spot on. This will be a highlight of our travels for years to come. We can't say enough good things about Alexander for arranging it and Jamie for being our guide. He even met up with us for a drink later in our travels when we hit his home town. Above and beyond call of duty!

Experienced Tours left us with magical memories of our family holiday in Scotland. Although we had our hotel in Edinburgh for the duration of our stay, the day excursions on offer went far enough to show us the real Scotland, with its splendid castles full of history and incredible geography. We did two different tours over two days, the Stirling castle & loch Lomond tour and the Highlands, whisky and castles private tour from Edinburgh. We found it convenient that our guides took care of booking everything for us, from castle entrances to tickets for the lake cruise. Furthermore, we really appreciated their historical explanations during our visits. The long journeys didn't tire us out as we were busy contemplating the breathtaking green scenery from the comfort of our spacious luxury van and chatting to our very pleasant private guides dressed in kilts. On the first day, Sandy, our guide, offered us a taste of Scotch whisky, typical Glasgow cakes and played Celtic music during the journey, which made our experience very immersive. On the second day, we were touched by our guide Calais who, after talking about music with our youngest son during lunch on the shores of a magical Canadian-style lake, prepared a playlist especially for him on the way home. In the end, we liked what we saw as much as who we saw it with. By the end of our trip, our son wanted to become Scottish! So we would definitely recommend Experienced Tours.

The entire day was outstanding from start to finish. Our guide Sean was fantastic and the drive was so enjoyable. The distilleries we visited, particularly Glenturret and Lindores Abbey gave fantastic private tours and tastings and you really got a feel for the passion the staff shared and how the industry is steeped in history. It really was magical. Like most people in the last couple of years my husband has had a rubbish time so for his 40th I wanted to give him a dream bucket list experience and this day with Experienced Tours I think far exceeded both our expectations. We would absolutely love to come back and try some of the other tours and would highly recommend to everyone.

On a final note this was made possible because Alexander was able to book us into the distilleries where I had been unable (and recommended them because the original Speyside ones I wanted to visit weren’t taking bookings) and I’m so glad he did because they were really something special.

Thank you so much for a truly memorable day!

This was probably the best tour we have taken in all of our travels. We elected to take a custom tour from our cruise port and working out the arrangements was so easy with the help of Experienced Tours staff. Our guide, Laura, was amazing! Right on time for our pick up, she was friendly, outgoing, and determined to make our visit to Scotland memorable.

Laura picked us up in a Mercedes van that easily accomodated the six of us. The van was clean, very comfortable, and provided good viewing for everyone. We first went to visit the Kelpies and Laura told us all about the Kelpie legend and also the history of this magnificant sculpture. It is beautiful and inspirational to see and to enjoy on our short walk around.

From there, we went to the Falkirk Wheel and were immediately struck by this extraordinary engineering work. We were able to take the short ride on the Wheel and were still amazed at it! Logically, it shouldn't make sense but it does and we all enjoyed it.

Laura then took us to the town of Culross where we had an excellent lunch at a restaurant that she chose. Our lunch was delicious and very filling. A success all the way round.

We then went on a scenic drive back to the ship where Laura dropped us just feet from the gangway. We loved our tour, our guide, and everything we experienced that wonderful day.

Experienced Tours provided us with this highpoint of our cruise and we would not hesitate one moment to recommend them to anyone who wanted an excellent visit in the Edinburgh area.
