Neighbourhood: New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.

- Jane DEdinburgh, United Kingdom6 contributionsBrilliant Fun Escape RoomWe were met by Reece who was very welcoming, cheerful, funny and friendly and explained everything really well. The Alice Escape Room was itself really well thought out. Minor complaint, it was really hot in the room but Reece did bring us a mini fan which helped a bit.Visited September 2023Travelled with familyWritten 19 September 2023
- BrianEdinburgh, United Kingdom1 contributionAn alternative evening activity for a double date!I have never been to an escape room before, I have played of similar videogames, but I don't think you can beat the real thing! The experience was amazing, fun, and engaging! We were 4 people including me, welcomed by the gamemaster "Mad" Kyle, whose impersonation and acting skills really surprised me, he was spot on and a really nice guy for what I could tell. The game per se was fantastic, nothing to improve in my opinion, maybe for "Mad" Kyle I would suggest to raise his voice just a bit and slow down a little when explaining the rules of the game prior entering the room. I am a foreigner, and albeit I have a strong command of the language, I also suffer from tinnitus and most of what he said during the explanation eluded me. Let's say that soft spoken and fast speech is not a great combination for everyone! Not a bad critic, just a tip to improve accessibility for everyone! ;) Nice job, "Mad" Kyle!Visited September 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 22 September 2023
- Eoin D2 contributionsA Great Escape Room ExperienceI booked Escape Hunt with a group of my friends as a little birthday treat for myself and a fun excursion for my friends. I was very impressed by the experience from the enthusiastic host, thematic and immersive room and intuitive, tactile puzzles. Like any escape room, it can be a little tough/slow to start but, once you get into the mindset, it really does excel in what it does. We completed the 4th Samurai challenge and, while a very solid experience, it does suffer slightly in a few ways. First, we were a group of 5 and one of the initial puzzles could only be completed by one person leaving the others to either speculate or stand around doing nothing. Obviously I wouldn't spoil any solutions, but the room could benefit from more simultaneous activities or requirements of multiple inputs for one solution. These do exist in the puzzle but it might benefit from more. As such, I'd recommend limiting your party to about 4 if you're worried about people being left with nothing to do at certain stages. Obviously, your mileage may vary but the staff on hand are incredibly helpful in providing necessary hints and tips throughout your experience. There are a number of different rooms to choose from themed to different concepts, one of which I'm sure you'll enjoy. My compliments to our host Artemis who, upon learning it was my birthday, gave me a very nicely, and thematically relevant, written birthday card following completion. It really made my day! Definitely recommended. Lots of fun with friends. Will be back for more really soon!Visited September 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 23 September 2023

Greeted by our host Daniel who really sold the experience. We have done a few rooms before at different venues but have to say escape hunt wins our vote. We completed the Alice in Puzzleland. It was amazing! We have certainly been bitten by the escape room bug! - Steph HEdinburgh, United Kingdom22 contributionsFab and fun from start to end!Amazing! Went as part of a hen party, split into two teams - the other team went to the Alice in Puzzleland, which sounded amazing when they were telling us later on. My team which included the bride to be, went into the Journey to Atlantis. From start until we solved it, it was great. Most of the puzzles were solved by fluke which made it even better. Best of all the bride to be had a great time. Will definitely try to make it back to try the other games.Visited October 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 31 October 2023

We did the Samurai room. Great intro and the puzzle was well laid out however there were a few problems. Our guide disappeared half way through and it took a while for her replacement to respond to us asking for a clue. A pretty major puzzle at the half way stage was useless as the mechanism of the drawer it opened was broken so opened normally. A written clue on a piece of cloth was barely readable as it was badly worn through handling. Then when we escaped there was no signal and the clock kept ticking, the replacement guide seemed a bit perplexed by it. He was sheepish when asked about the broken drawer and said the puzzle was left in as a red herring which, given the complexity of it, seemed a bit lame. Escape Hunt are at the top end of the cost range for escape rooms, £75 for 3. For that price, the minimum I expect is that the puzzles all work and the time you achieve is accurate. We've had better for less.

From the bottomless sea of my boredom arose a fearsome figure, clad in simple attire with a single, chilling eye-patch. His name was Ian (or maybe Kyle. Sorry Ian/kyle), and his booming voice shook rocks and soul alike. With a cadence so gravelly it could easily move boulders down vast stretches of unexplored hinterland, he spoke of the legend of bluebeard's treasure, and our fool's quest to liberate it. Armed with nothing but our wits and a conveniently placed intercom from which wise words flowed continuously, we bested the challenge and emerged victorious. 10/10 would recommend.

This is my second trip to Escape Hunt, I've tried the Pirate and the Viking rooms, both were brilliant. The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming as soon as you arrive and then do a great job of bringing the story to life in character before you enter the room. The rooms are decorated with plenty of props and mood lighting to add to the effect.

2nd time back here and an even better experience than the last time!
This time we took on the Samurai room, introduced to the adventure by Kyle
who gave a fantastic energizing chat to get us on our quest and got us so
psyched up to get into the game.
The game was just the right difficulty for an escape room, not too hard and with the attention and gentle help of the Gamesmaster Roz at points we got a bit confused was a lot of fun, solving each puzzle and moving onto a new section. We thought we'd solved it each time, but there was actually just another room, that was what we loved the most so many new clues that all need tied together to defeat the samurai curse.
An excellent escape room and I can't wait to go back next time

I don't expect to pay £20 per person to be shouted at. My family brought me here for my birthday. We sat down in the reception area with another family, and our host walked into room and, for no reason at all, started shouting at us. He told us that he spent his days doing stupid pirate voices, and that if we weren't going to respond to him, he would leave. This is no way to greet paying customers. We continued the experience forcing ourselves to laugh so as not to anger the host and forcing a smile so he wouldn't keep shouting.
The room itself was fun, though a couple of things were broken. But the whole experienced was tarnished by this shouting man. To this dude - I'm sorry if you were having a bad day, and if you hate your job, but please don't shout at me.

Went as a group of 6 and did the Viking room. As 6 people all with masters degrees, found a family based puzzle game quite easy, but the game master kept giving hints to puzzles we didn't even get chance to solve. Got out in 35 mins because of that, also a little pricey for a linear set of basic puzzles, of which hints were given to puzzles that weren't even in the room. Staff were very nice though.

Really great, fun experience for our group of four (from 9 to 51 years old). Lots of different challenges, excellent props and an immersive experience with great sound effects and lighting. We tackled the Journey To Atlantis room and made it out with just 6 seconds to spare (very exciting). Our host, Amina, was excellent and explained everything clearly in advance, and was on hand to provide clues via walkie talkie throughout the hour-long game. Very friendly. Would thoroughly recommend Escape Hunt Edinburgh – much better than some of the other escape rooms we have been to. Nice bar/café setting when you arrive if you want to get a drink and play some of the other games available (pool, darts, shuffleboard, etc).

Thanks for your review adventurers!
Congratulations on finding the lost city of Atlantis! We are thrilled you had a great experience aboard our submarine and that although challenging, you found the puzzles immersive and fun! Captain Amina will be delighted to learn you found her excellent and helpful.
We're also glad you liked Boom Battle Bar's set-up and activities too! We'll pass that on!
Why not see how you do taking on the Queen of Hearts in Alice in Puzzleland; sailing the high seas in the search for BlackBeard's treasure; or braving ancient Japan in attempt to lift Tanaka's curse?!
Thanks again explorers!

Absolutely amazing experience!!!!! The quality of the puzzles and designs of the rooms were top notch, but the best part of our experience was Kyle! Kyle (aka the game master) was absolutely amazing, his acting really helped immerse us in our game and was he was experienced and friendly outside the game.
We booked our first game for a short trip up to Edinburgh and as soon as we finished our first escape we ended up booking a second the next day because of the quality of the puzzles and how amazing Kyle was!
The first room we did was the wild west room and the second one was Blackbeard's Treasure. Both rooms were great with a wide variety of interactive puzzles with varying difficulty so there is something for everyone. One good aspect of the wild west room was that, even though it features padlocks heavily, the way you aquired the code was incredibly creative and didn't rely just on solving math puzzles.
The pirate room was also great because the puzzles were all unique and required out of the box thinking!
In summary this is a must do!!! It's a top quality escape room with a top quality games master!!!!

We booked this as a surprise for our mum's 75th. Lockdown restrictions had been extended by four weeks, so all the usual birthday activities were either not yet available or needed to be booked months in advance.
We weren't sure whether she would like it but she had a great time and really enjoyed that we all had to work together and problem solve.
Kyle, our games master, gave an amazing performance and scared me to death when he burst in both at the beginning and at the end.
Our group were all adults and it was difficult enough that we all had to work pretty hard, but a mixed age group would equally have been able to tackle it.
So much fun, and we'll definitely be back next time we're in Edinburgh.

We booked this online, while on holiday and moving from Perth to Edinburgh. By the time we arrived, parking was free (after 6.30pm) and just round the corner. Only one of our party had ever done an escape room before, so the rest of us had no idea what to expect. There were 5 Escapes to choose from and we went for the Wild West, which gave plenty of opportunities for puzzle solving.
We needed a couple of clues (from Kyle, our games-master who had a convincing cowboy drawl), but we still managed to escape within the hour.
The equipment/props were really good (without giving anything away) and after a while we got really good at looking around the room to see what would give us our next clue. The mechanisms were very clever, magnets and levers to pull to reveal the keys, clues and important objects. Once we completed our escape it was easy to see how all the clues fitted together.
As our escape progressed, our team-working improved and we were soon all solving the puzzles, although in the first 5 minutes we were bickering as the clues were taking a while to solve, but I think this was in part due to the dim lighting in the room and the fact that it was quite warm, until we moved on to another part of the escape.
Great fun for a family; in our group the youngest was 14 and the oldest 60; we would recommend this to any family. We will definitely do another escape, but choose a different theme in a couple of months, at a venue closer to home.

Hello,
Thank you for your question! We can fit 6 people in each room. We have 5 rooms, meaning that all together we can have 30 people in-game at once on the site.
Thanks again!
