The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Stockbridge & Dean Village
Just downhill of New Town and attractively straddling a river near the elegant Royal Botanic Garden, it’s small wonder that Stockbridge became one of the city’s first hip neighbourhoods. It’s now one of Edinburgh’s most desirable, though many bohemian touches have fallen away as its residents have matured and the area has gentrified. Some second-hand shops cling on, but mostly residents display refined tastes in basement bistros, gastropubs, coffee and antique shops, boutiques and delis and at the Sunday farmers' market. A pleasant ten-minute walk away, along a leafy riverside path beside the gurgling Water of Leith, lies Dean Village. This sleepy neighborhood of medieval half-timbered houses still retains much of the village feel it had when watermills plied their trade here. Beyond, the wooded riverside path feels even more remote as it climbs to the sculpture gardens of the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art.

    Sundays in Stockbridge
I visit every time I’m in Edinburgh. The market is held every Sunday starting at 10am. I recommend a walk along the water of leith walkway, starting near the National Galleries of Scotland through Dean Village until you reach Stockbridge. From paella to mead and anything in between Stockbridge Market is a foodie delight. It’s the place to find souvenirs or interesting gifts for family, friends or yourself, that you won’t find on the Royal Mile. Stockbridge also has an array of cafes and boutiques to explore.

    One of our best vacations
Our first time to Europe. Scotland is a beautiful country so rich in history, culture and architecture. We visited Edinburgh and Inverness and toured the Scottish Highlands. The Scottish people are friendly and the areas we visited were dog friendly. We toured castles, the Britannia Royal Yacht, shopped the Royal Mile and hiked up to Arthur’s Seat and Ben Nevis. The Jacobite Steam Train aka Hogwarts Express was exciting to see. We loved our trip and will have fond memories for some time.

Paella was not as good as before, did not taste fresh and not much chicken. It was also slightly burnt in places. Further to this, I noticed some very questionable hygiene on the premises. Overall disappointing, I hope it was just a one off and it will get better again, but I'm not sure. They are so popular, maybe they have become a bit complacent?

TripAdvisor shows that the hours are 10 am - 5 pm. We arrived at 4 pm, and almost all the booths were completely packed up. We spoke with a vendor who said they actually close at 4 pm. After I showed her the posted hours on TripAdvisor, I saw her speak to the organizers. She came back, thanked me for letting them know, and assured me that the hours would be updated on TripAdvisor. As of two weeks later, it is still showing as being open until 5pm.

This is predominantly a food market and all of the stalls were fantastic! However, I was surprised by how small it was actually, within half an hour I had browsed the full market, talked to stall holders, bought coffee and food, and was finished.

I would recommend the Paella though, best I've ever tried!!

We have been spending the summer in a flat in Stockbridge. On a number of Sunday's we have walked through the Stockbridge Market. Always plenty of vendors and plenty of people. Nice place to spend a half hour. The most scenic and appetizing food vendor sells paella from huge open bubbling hot pans. We have had the seafood paella (£9.00) and found it to be less than meets the eye; virtually all overcooked rice with one shrimp and one langostino.
