Some really brilliant comedy! Drinks aren't cheap but after paying for the comedians I'm sure they need to make up for the cash somewhere! Payment was tenner a ticket and for four acts not including the host it was great value for money! We turned up at 7.30 when doors opened after reading advice from others re. Turning up early... My partner and I frequently go to comedy shows and visited The Stand last night for he first time. The venue is lovely and intimate and the acts were incredibly funny, amongst the best we've ever seen. I gave it 4/5 stars for the seating issue. We arrived at 8pm for the 9pm show and had to stand, but it... More

The comedy that we saw on Friday night was excellent. The compere linked everything together perfectly - picking on the audience a little but only in a friendly way and nothing that made me scared to make eye contact! We got there at 6:50 and stood in a small queue and we got a table for 2 in the second... More

Having read the reviews I was really worried about not getting a seat and having to stand. The (Thursday) show was due to start at 9 and the club opened at 7.30, we got there at around 7.20 and joined the minor queue outside. We had a nice table with a good view but because you weren't allowed to move... More

This club is in a small cellar bar. We visited on a Friday (its open 7 nights)If you want to have a seat you need to be in at least an hour before the scheduled start. The bar is very sweaty and cramped they really pack them in. Toilet are of poor quality hold it in if you can. The... More

This is undoubtedly me and the Mrs favourite place in Edinburgh. We stumbled upon this place a few years back and have never turned back. We love booking a hotel in York place for the night so we can have a night at the Stand. The place is so intimate.. it's like having a comedian in your lounge.. the staff... More

We've been a few times now to the Stand since moving to Edinburgh. Comedians every night have been superb and engaging. The beers and entrance prices are always very reasonable and value for money. Just make sure you get there early otherwise you could end up standing, or worse being right in the front row! Staff are always very good... More

Visited on Saturday. The comedy was good, no gripes there, and all and the staff were polite. Selection of drinks reasonable, not great though. My issue is that I booked online for myself & my girlfriend for our weekend visit to Edinburgh. We turned up 45 mins before the performance and all tables and chairs were taken. I could see... More

You cannot fault them for offering a free comedy show on a Sunday afternoon. (1.30). Get there early to get snacks and a table! Something different to do and fun. Before the show the have food like nachos and wedges that looked ace. I just got drinks and crisps from the bar- very cheap actually. Stu and Gary were entertaining.... More

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
