About
Established in 2019, Holyrood Distillery is an exciting new attraction located in the centre of Edinburgh as the first working single malt distillery in the city for almost a century. We are delighted to have welcomed over 40,000 visitors over the last year.
With the opportunity to revive Edinburgh’s rich distilling heritage, we do so with experimentation and innovation at the forefront of our vision, as well as a steadfast commitment to our local community. Unconstrained by tradition, we have set ourselves apart as a distinctly different venue, who seek to push the boundaries of what it means to be a modern producer of scotch whisky.
Our distillery Brand Home consists of 4 key spaces which make up the experience. Our visitor route includes our welcome room, spirits lab, still room, and cask room - through which guests are guided through alongside a live guide. We also have a small indoor bar and tasting room, plus a destination gift and spirits shop.

Neighbourhood: Southside & Holyrood
Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around university buildings in Southside, the sort of neighbourhood that supports a long string of second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for just a few pounds. In August the student population is replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking Southside are two great parks. The Meadows is a vast flat and sporty space where football, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, and golf often all take place side by side. Kids in its big playgrounds add to the joyful noise. Far bigger and much wilder, Holyrood Park extends to the east and provides a real hike up Arthur’s Seat, but the district is best known as the site of Scotland’s Parliament and its premier Royal Palace—and their steady stream of sightseers.

Amazing Distillery tour with Stewart, very knowledgeable and funny. The new makes were new to me and I enjoyed all the different flavors. Learned lots of new things (like the variety of yeast and how it changes the flavor) which is always refreshing. Definitely a must if you love Whiskey and Gin!

Really interesting tour of this young distillery. Well worth the entrance fee. Their new whisky ‘Arrival’ was a pleasant surprise for a non whisky drinker 😀

We learned so much about the great history of Scottish whiskey and tried some delicious whiskeys and gins. The staff was friendly and the whiskey was exciting. Highly recommend!

Fantastic tour and tasting with knowledgeable staff member, Finn. My mate and I really enjoyed being taken through the distillery and learning about what makes Holyrood unique from other distilleries, and our guide was friendly and helpful.

The Distillery is located in a quiet section of town within walking distance of the High Street area with a great view of Arthurs Seat in its backyard. It is easy to locate. We had a late afternoon reservation and were a little early. We went upstairs for a beverage and loved the hometown atmosphere. The tour was fun and excellent and being it was pretty quiet that day, we spent more time conversing with the employees who really care about their Company. This is our first tour of a distillery anywhere in the world and we loved it. Very nice building design too.

Very unusual tasting to say the least we booked "The Half n Half" Tasting online.
When we arrived the barman presented us with 4 cans of beer & 4 Nips of Whiskey each. A quick explanation of each was given and we were left to sample our wares.
Not a bad way to spend 1 1/2 hours but not what we expected.

Been on lots of distillery tours and this this is the best by far. If you're curious about the process the guides/staff are on hand with so much knowledge. One for the nerds for sure.

Really refreshing approach to the tour and the philosophy explained behind this young distillery.
For visitors, I particularly liked the fact that there was seating throughout and the tastings were spaced out during the tour, relating to the stages and information we were given. Highly knowledgeable guide and shop staff.
Thank you for the lovely time we had.
P.S. I don’t like gin since a bad experience in my youth. I am sure we have all been there!🫢🙄. I keep trying to like gin - it was not happening until today and I tasted yours 😋 👌.
I do like many whiskies and new make. I am looking forward to following and tasting more of the Holyrood specials in the future. We will be back. Thank you 🙏🥃
