Neighbourhood: Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.

    Chocolate heaven
My granddaughters and I had a fabulous time on the Chocolatarium tour. The guide was lovely and very informative. The chocolate was delicious in all forms. We were encouraged to try as many types as we liked. Which of course we did.😀 I would highly recommend this as a day out for people of all ages.

The whole experience was choc (olate) full of fun 😊
My 10 year old granddaughter and I loved every minute of the whole experience. Sandy was our guide and he was very informative and knowledgeable. The chocolate was delicious and plentiful. We both loved making our own bar of chocolate. Great fun and highly recommended 😋

    Insanely fun :)
Had a great time with Rafa, she was amazing and fun to have as a leader on how to make chocolate. We had a great laugh and tasted delicious sweets , especially the grip reaper sweets they are to die for. 10/10 definitely recommend to anyone that wants to try new things. And Rafa you are brilliant, thanks for the great time.

    Chocolate lovers dream
Fantastic tour of chocolate, the right balance of knowledge, interaction and (terrible) jokes! Our tour guide Michael was fantastic, so much passion and fun! Lots of history, lots of knowledge and LOTS of chocolate samples! (The tangerine dark chocolate was my favourite! Making your own bar of chocolate to take away was great! Thoroughly enjoyed our experience and will be recommending it to anyone visiting Edinburgh!

    Chocolate lovers tour
Ideal tour for chocolate lovers. Our tour guide (Sarah) was very friendly and enthusiastic. Tour starts with how chocolate is grown then moves into the chocolate making room. Here they explain how it’s made and you get to create your own milk or dark chocolate bar with unlimited toppings. Then it’s into the tasting room where you can try various bars (all of which you can buy in the gift shop). There is a huge range of flavours, some more unusual than others. Would definitely recommend for any chocolate lovers and a great way to spend an hour and half.

Make your own chocolate - what’s not to love!
We really enjoyed the tour. It was informative but mostly it was good fun. Tucked away a few minutes down the hill from the Castle, it’s a fun activity to break up the site seeing. Our tour guide was really animated and entertaining. Our party of 2 adults and children aged 14 and 9 all enjoyed making our own chocolate. They even cater for intolerances throughout so during tasting sessions etc you are never miss out. Thoroughly recommend.

    Excellent chocolate experience
We visited here with three children (age 6, 8 and 10) and it was excellent. Lots of tasty treats, a little education and some really bad jokes from Michael (sorry mate!). Kids were kept amused throughout and loved the opportunity to make their own chocolate at the end. Recommend it to anyone who likes chocolate!

    wow chccolate.
it was a very informative friendly tour that highlighted the process of making chocolate from the growing right up to modern day inventions in chocolate. There was plenty of tasting, and learning, would highly recommend spending 90 minutes here. Especially fun when you made your own chocolate,Ideal for kids. Plenty of choices to choose in the shop.too

    Great chocolate tasting
Visited with a 7 and 12 year old. Great time had by all. The guide was very knowledgeable. Tried lots of different chocolates, learnt how chocolate if made and where it comes from and made our own chocolate bars. Nice gift shop selling the chocolate sampled on the tour.

This was such a fun experience! We got to learn about how chocolate is made but in a fun way not in a lecture type style. Then we made our own chocolate creations and they let you choose from different mold designs which adds to the experience. Then we got to taste lots of different chocolates. It was definitely worth the money and I'd highly reccomend this activity to anyone! Also our tour guide leigh who was still training was very good! Naturally funny and she made you feel comfortable.

I wasn’t sure what to expect- a friend told me to take the tour while in Edinburgh with our family of six, mostly all teens. Guess what? They loved it and so did I! You get to try a fair bit of chocolate, so be prepared! (Do go for that morning jog!lol) It was fascinating to learn about the difference aspect of cocoa, and about chocolate making. Our tour guide was great too. I can’t remember her name but she was a linguist from Ohio. Well done!

Everyone in our group (2 adults and two teens) thought it was so much fun and no one had anything but positive things to say. Could not recommend this enough.

What an amazing experience!! As a chocolate lover, when this popped up on maps it was an instant click and I knew I had to go. Luckily there were spots the following day. Definitely book ahead to be sure of a spot. Learned a lot, tasting was superb, and making my own bar was really neat. Excellent time.

Easy to find and nice they had times for tours after the shop closes.

Awesome! Leigh was a wonderful presenter, very personable and fun. Our 10 and 12 year old were thoroughly entertained AND learned quite a bit about chocolate. They have continued to research after coming home. Making our own bars was a lovely souvenir and the tasting room incredible. Highly recommend

The tour of the chocolate factory was a magical experience brought alive entirely because of our guide, Ed. His witty jokes and clever use of sarcasm made the history of making chocolate super enjoyable! The samples of chocolate are generous, and we LOVED 'making our own' as well. Personally, I also enjoyed the 'drink' at the start too, but I know that wasn't popular with everyone (I'll have theirs!!!)

We had the most lovely member of staff, the tour lasted the perfect amount of time and we loved the independence we were given as-well as being taught about the history of chocolate in a fun and engaging way! Overall wonderful experience, would highly recommended! 😊
