We found this place whilst looking on trip adviser for a live music venue in Edinburgh for a Sunday night. We were slightly sceptical when we first walked in, the staff weren't sure what band were coming on but we decided to wait the hour until they came on and we are so glad we did! Quite a good music venue with a good choice of beers and spirits. First band were good - No complaints. Second band (Radio Pachuco) were absolutely unbelievably bad. Well the singer, bassist and lead guitar might well be incredibly talented by couldn't hear much of them above the racket the drummer was making.

Lovely place to listen to live music. We went on a Friday and Saturday. Music was completely different. Great atmosphere. Drinks are cheap too!

My mom, sister, and I went to Whistle Binkies while visiting Edinburgh on vacation, and I'm so happy we did!!! Great live music, super fun atmosphere, and the management was more than hospitable! We had the best night of our trip here, and would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Edinburgh!

Went here for New Years eve, The atmosphere was brilliant with a mix of locals and tourists. The live band was really good. The place has got a nice vibe. They got a good range of alcohol at great prices. Friendly staff and very efficient even on a packed night. Only thing is they don't serve anything to eat or munch... There are a lot of bars on/near the golden mile, but this place has live full bands and a really great atmosphere. A cool mixture of locals and tourists of multiple generations. We didn't feel ackward being a little older, everyone was very welcoming. Nice selection of beers and whiskey. It was right next to our hotel and we found... More

We were visiting Edinburgh and asked people to recommend a good locale and hence we found ourselves at Whistle Binkies. We started our night here and after visiting several other bars, returned and stayed on. In retrospect, we should have stayed in here. The staff, the musicians, the locals, customers etc all make this a fantastic place to drink, dance... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
