    Highly recommended
We spent an excellent rainy day walking around the yacht at our leisure listening to the free audio guides and then had an excellent meal in the restaurant afterwards. The route around the various levels is well laid out and signposted but you can spend as much time as you want there and can go back and revisit areas if you want. The yacht is being carefully renovated by the charity that owns it and they are doing an excellent job. The yacht is easily reached by the Edinburgh trams, you get off at Ocean Terminal and head for the second floor of the shopping centre, where you will find the entrance to the small information centre and ticket office. The Royal Yacht seemed very popular but we were able to buy our tickets on site and enter immediately so I don’t think it is necessary to buy tickets in advance. Make sure you visit the restaurant which has been created out of the to deck and offers table service including afternoon teas, sandwiches, cakes and drinks. Once again, after you are seated, you are not rushed at all. Highly recommended
Thank you for taking the time to share your five-star experience aboard The Royal Yacht Britannia. It is wonderful to know that you enjoyed exploring the Yacht at your own pace with our complimentary audio guide. Britannia is indeed an all-weather attraction. How lovely that you noticed how well maintained the Yacht is. Our hardworking Housekeeping and Maintenance teams will be thrilled to read your kind words. As you mentioned, Ocean Terminal, where Britannia is berthed, is easily reached by tram from Edinburgh’s city centre. A visit to our Royal Deck Tearoom to try our mouthwatering scones, cakes, sandwiches, and soups is always a great addition to a tour! It is kind of you to highly recommend others visit Britannia when they are in Edinburgh.

Excellent value for money fascinating tour
Really fascinating tour, doesn't matter whether you approve of the royal family or not, this is a really interesting piece of history and excellent value for money. Afternoon tea is definitely recommended. Also really easy to get to. Just hop on the tram from Princes Street.
Many thanks for your five-star review of Tripadvisor’s No.1 UK Attraction, The Royal Yacht Britannia. It is fantastic that you chose to visit to learn more about the beautiful ship and history. Our tickets include a complimentary audio guide as well as an Annual Pass, which allows each visitor to return, free of charge, for up to a year. I’m 52, my wife is 51 and our son is 19 and into sports and my daughter is 16 who loves horses. Everyone of loved it, which is rare on a family holiday. Make sure you go the cafe. The food, test and champagne were exceptional.

    Walk to history on Britannia
See the beautiful Royal Yacht Britannia, how the life was on board this amazing ship, how Queen Elizabeth lived here and why she loved it so much, Walk through all the rooms and decks. There is som much history here. Top recommendation, you go to Edinburgh, you need to see the Yacht.
Indeed, visitors can follow in the footsteps of Royalty as they explore The Royal Yacht Britannia, from the Bridge to the State Apartments, and the Crew’s Quarters too. It is kind of you to recommend others visit Britannia when they are in Edinburgh. Thank you for your five-star rating.

    Must do when in Edinburgh
My wife and I did the Royal Yacht Britannia tour recently on weekend trip in Edinburgh. It was an excellent tour with a lot to see. Recommend to purchase your tickets ahead of time. You can use your phone for audio tour and remember to bring your headphones. They also give you device to listen to tour if you do not use your phone. There are 26 specific locations on tour. The boat has been maintained very well and you get to everything. So very interesting and the people working there are very helpful. Must do!
What a pleasure to welcome you and your wife on board The Royal Yacht Britannia. It is wonderful that you had an excellent experience touring the five decks, learning about the Yacht’s interesting Royal history. As you mentioned, visitors can also use their mobile phones to listen to our complimentary audio tour commentary. How lovely that you noticed how well maintained the Yacht is. Our hardworking Housekeeping and Maintenance teams will be thrilled to read your kind words. Thank you for letting other visitors know that Britannia is a must-see attraction.

This is an example of someone giving a lot of attention to detail. Good explanatory introductory display at reception. The voice guide was very informative and easy to use as well as being able to pause it so you could stop for a longer look or to take pictures. It gave a really good feel of how the setup on board worked and what it was like to be crew or the royalty travelling on it. The ship and fittings are immaculately maintained and easy to view. The filter system and timed tickets made the whole experience unhurried and easy to navigate around the well-signed route. A school trip came in after us and were obviously enthusiatic but well-behaved. A great idea to use this to help teach kids history. Despite the busyness it was a very orderly and relaxing show. We both felt we really gained insights into what was at the time a hidden world. The staff were very helpful and friendly particularly the lady who first meets you at reception. We had arrived when a fire alarm practice had just started so were slightly delayed in getting in but she was very reassuring and cheerful despite having to cope with confused tourists. We finished our visit with lunch in the fine atmospheric deck reastaurant. Not cheap (but then it wouldn't be would it) but very good and worth the experience. Well done to all concerned for a great show. How nice that it is somewhere other than London for once! You are a credit to Edinburgh.
What a pleasure to read about your five-star visit to The Royal Yacht Britannia. We are delighted that you found the displays on the tour route and complimentary audio guide to be informative and interesting. Indeed, by touring Britannia, visitors can gain an insight into what it was like to travel the globe by sea on this former floating palace. How wonderful that you noticed how well maintained the ship is. Our Maintenance and Housekeeping teams do work hard to preserve Britannia for future generations to enjoy. We are thrilled that you enjoyed meeting our team of friendly Visitor Assistants, they aim to provide every visitor with a memorable experience and will be delighted to receive a special mention in your review. A visit to our Royal Deck Tearoom for a delicious lunch is indeed a fantastic experience to add to any visit. Many thanks for recommending Britannia to others.

    Loved it! ⛴️
We really enjoyed this outing. Felt like a real privilege to be seeing everything so close up and so many personal artefacts still in place. It’s as though everyone just stepped off the boat and literally everything remains in place - very well executed! Sadly the adjacent shopping centre is pretty poor, lots of empty shops and desperately in need of rejuvenation. But the Royal Yacht is definitely worth a visit.
It is fantastic that you loved your tour of The Royal Yacht Britannia. Indeed, it is interesting to see the many personal and gifted artifacts on display. 95% of the items on the tour are original to Britannia, and kindly on loan from the Royal Collection Trust, the Yacht does feel like a time capsule. For the information of others, Britannia is berthed at Ocean Terminal where our Visitor Centre is located on the second floor enabling us to become a highly accessible attraction. Thank you for your five-star review.

    Great Experience!
We spent a good few hours meandering round the various areas of the Royal Yacht Britannia. The auto guides are a very good idea and keep you informed as you’re walking round. The whole experience was excellent and a bit of history that is well worth a visit when in Edinburgh.
How lovely that you had a great experience touring The Royal Yacht Britannia. Our free audio guide tells visitors interesting facts and stories about life on board, while allowing them to explore the five decks at their leisure. It is great that you found your visit to be worthwhile.

    A Royal floating museum
Very interesting walking around the Yacht thinking about how the Queen and Royal Family used to holiday on there regularly. Everything has been kept in a brilliant condition. We were not going to do the audio tour to start with but I am glad we did, as the audio phones we were given really gave us a lot of interesting information and facts about the Royal Family I never knew before!
By coming aboard The Royal Yacht Britannia, visitors do gain an insight into life at sea for the Royal Family and crew of Royal Yachtsmen by exploring the many areas where they lived, worked, and relaxed. Our Maintenance and Housekeeping teams do work hard to keep the Yacht looking shipshape. They will be delighted to read your five-star review.

    Audio Tour
The entrance is via a shopping centre/Mall. Go up to the second floor. The yacht is small and cosy as the Queen wanted a country house feel. The crew’s quarters seem to take up more space than the family area. I can see why Her Majesty loved it so much and it was a privilege to look around and see how they lived, entertained and slept. Recommend listening to the audio tour, you can go at your own pace and would miss a lot of interesting information without it. The tea room is lovely too.
Visitors can immerse themselves in the lives of the Royal Family and crew of Royal Yachtsmen when they come aboard The Royal Yacht Britannia. Indeed, Britannia is berthed at Ocean Terminal where our Visitor Centre is located on the second floor. This has allowed us to become a highly accessible attraction. The simple yet elegant furnishings that visitors see on Britannia were chosen by Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip to create the feeling of a country home at sea. Many thanks for rating your experience five stars.

Went with my dad who has limited mobility. All of the staff without exception were super with him, very friendly and welcoming but also very patient. We were offered the use of a wheelchair whilst we toured the yacht and it was so easy to get round the yacht in a wheelchair - one of the best places to cater with disabled that I have been to
It was fascinating to see how the Queen used to travel as well as all the staff with her. And was different to just going round a stately home. The audio guide was also a great idea as meant my dad could listen to everything, whereas when its all written down, he struggles to read everything
There was also a fun "find the corgi" trail for children
The tea room is pricey, but then how often can you say you've had tea and scones where the Queen has also dined!
If you're in Edinburgh can only recommend you visit - especially on a February day!

What a lovely review! We are pleased to learn that you enjoyed exploring Britannia’s five decks and learning about life on board for the Royal Family and dedicated crew. As you mention, the Royal Yacht is a highly accessible visitor attraction with lifts and ramps between each of the decks and an accessible tour route, for wheelchairs of up to 67cm width. Indeed, the tour is self-guided using our complimentary audio handset, allowing visitors to explore Britannia at their own leisure, whilst learning about the Royal Yacht’s unique history. We are pleased to learn that our cuddly corgi treasure hunt proved to be such a hit – we hope you managed to spot them all! A visit to our Royal Deck Tea Room is certainly a perfect way to complete your tour and take in the stunning waterfront views. Thank you for visiting and for your kind review.

An absolute highlight of our visit to Edinburgh was taking a bus to Leith to visit the Royal Yacht Britannia! What a stunning place to visit, the whole tour is perfect with excellent commentary. Allow at least 2-3 hours hours to get the most out of your visit as there is so much history to absorb and it would be a shame to rush through. The views are absolutely stunning from the decks. We would also recommend afternoon tea in the restaurant either during or once you have finished, service is friendly and welcoming whilst being professional. We would definitely visit again, as this is a wonderful place to visit. Highly recommended.

We pre-booked a ticket for myself and my wife (who works for the NHS) purchased a discounted ticket at the desk .
The tour starts by going through the museum and onto the top deck . You can get an audio handset or download it onto your phone.
It was fascinating and informative , seeing all aspects of life on board from the crew to the royal Family. We absolutely loved it

Also liked the Royal Tea rooms where we had Scones and Tea - delscious . We would thoroughly recommend if you are in Edinburgh , buses go to the ocean Terminal for the tour.

Very well organised and maintained tourist attraction. All staff were very friendly and helpful. Nice touch of humour with comical placement of toy corgis in most rooms (especially the sick bay). Included in admission price were handsets with very informative audio guide which was very good and top marks for having Welsh as an option. Very interesting and informative visit with plenty to see. We were lucky that it was quiet so could wander without crowds . Not suitable in bad weather as decks are obviously open . Spent couple of hours easily. Finished trip with lovely lunch of sandwiches and soup or sandwiches and scones. Very pleasant and enjoyable.

The yacht itself was beautiful, the rooms were lovely and stunning to see. Upon entry you have a walkthrough and see photos and printed information on the walls. At the end of this, you are advised that you will be given what looks like a phone to listen to the information provided in different languages and there are signs posted advising which number you need to press to listen to the relevant information.
About half way through the walk through of the yacht, there are signs for the Tea Rooms and there is a short wait depending on the time of day on your visit. The menu is not large but is very nice and I highly recommend the potato wedges. It isn't cheap as we had soup/sandwich, cake and a drink and it worked out about £35 for 2 people.

The downside of this was that I am hard of hearing and could not listen to the information provided on the 'telephones'. I asked if there were sign posted information inside the yacht or any other type of information available and was told no. It would have been helpful if I could have been given a leaflet to read about each area so that I could fully enjoy the visit as I felt I was missing out on information given to other tourists...

Thank you for visiting The Royal Yacht Britannia. We are pleased that you found Britannia stunning to see. As you kindly mention, our complimentary audio guided tour allows you to explore Britannia’s five decks at your own pace. The tour can be listened to on our audio handset which works with the T-loop system, or personal mobile phone, on both of which the volume can be controlled. The self-led tour allows you to learn about life on board, whilst taking in as much or as little of the tour as you wish. We do apologise that you were not offered another version as we do have a printed version of the script, as well as tablets available with the Britannia tour in British and American Sign Language. We will of course pass your feedback regarding the audio tour onto our Visitor Experience Manager, as we are always keen to make improvements where possible. We hope to welcome you back aboard to fully experience all five decks with your free Annual Pass. For the information of others, admission to Britannia is less than other top Edinburgh attractions and includes an Annual Pass, which allows each visitor to return free of charge, for up to a year. Britannia has been named as the UK’s Best Visitor Attraction 2020 by Which? Magazine, and has retained its Tripadvisor Traveller’s Choice Best of the Best Award for the 9th consecutive year, making us one of the Top 1% in the World.

We really enjoyed this. To be honest, I wasn’t that bothered about going but it turned out to be one of my favourite things in Edinburgh. It is an easy bus ride from the city centre, with buses running very frequently back and forth. It was really interesting and you get to see lots of the rooms. The audio tour was great, one of the best audio tours that I’ve done. The tour is a set one way route, which means that you don’t miss anything. Would recommend a trip to the tea room as well. It’s really good and reasonably priced. We got to the tea room about midday and it was already busy. The queue shortly after that was quite long, I imagine in summer there would be quite a wait for a table so it could be wise to plan for before or after that peak lunch period. The souvenir shop is really overpriced, which is a shame really because it means people are less likely to buy. But that certainly doesn’t detract from the attraction itself.

If the weather is chilly (as it was in February) this is a really good way to fill 2 or 3 hours and stay relatively warm.

Well presented audio tour and some fascinating artifacts to see. The yacht is in great shape and it’s easy to get an impression of how it functioned.

Even better is the insight it provides into the lives of the royals whilst they were on board.

The tea room on the top deck is well worth a visit - a little pricey but great service and tasty too.

I wasn't sure about going here, but I went anyway and thoroughly enjoyed it.
It was great to see this ship, a piece of Royal history, preserved like this. The audio tour was full of interesting facts and guided you round the yacht at your own pace.
I loved hearing about the running of the yacht and about all the people who worked on board and their jobs. The living accommodation was also very interesting.
We had a cuppa in the cafe but didn't eat there.
I thought it was worth the money (£17.50) and would highly recommend as something to do when visiting Edinburgh.

This is a great place to visit any day but especially on a wet, windy day as, if you park in the Blue Car Park (level E), you are indoors for the vast majority of the time.
Brittania is thoughtfully and sympathetically presented and you can do the tour at your leisure using a smart phone or a cleaned and sanitised individual handset. Parking and the use of the handset are both free.
The staff are cheery, welcoming and very helpful. Great efforts were made to keep the floors in the lift tower dry and safe.
The royal yacht is beautiful and I can understand Her Majesty's great affection for her. I still haven't forgiven Tony Blair for her decommissioning!

A worth visit! Very interesting and informative. You really get an impression of how the life was back then on the Britannia, when it was still active.
I would definitely recommend to book the audioguide tour around the museum and inside the ship, since you get a lot of extra information.
Important: In the days of Covid-19, you should wear a mask, since it is not always possible to maintain social distancing. Also you have to book a time slot and buy the ticket in advance.
A must see for everyone visiting Edinburgh!

We are thrilled that you found your tour of Britannia to be interesting and informative, exploring the five decks and learning about life on board for the Royal Family and dedicated crew of Royal Yachtsmen. Indeed, the tour is self-guided using Britannia’s complimentary audio guide, which is now also available on your mobile phone. As you say, the wearing of masks aboard Britannia is compulsory, and you can be assured that we are fully adhering to all published guidelines to ensure that our visitors have a safe and enjoyable experience. Thank you for visiting and for recommending us to others as a ‘must-see’ attraction in Edinburgh!
