Edinburgh Darkside Walking Tour: Mysteries, Murder and Legends

1,624 reviews
The atmospheric city of Edinburgh is best explored by night, when tales of mystery and murder are at their most frightening. Discover the dark side of Scotland's capital on a historical walking tour that covers Edinburgh’s morbid past. Wind your way through the cobbled streets of Calton Hill, North Bridge, and Canongate cemetery, all of which are inaccessible by coach bus or car, and listen to stories that focus on torture, treason, and death.

Quirky but well worth a visit. The landlord was a character with a great sense of humour. A great experience with a good choice of drinks. We will definitely be going again on our return visit.

Feeling a little trepidation in heading into the city from my rural hometown for the first time since lockdown to meet friends, I was happy to see that the now mandated COVID regulations were in force much earlier on than required in the Judge. Masks on unless sitting, table service, all staff wearing masks, a one way system, sign-in from each individual household, and a token system for bathroom use. Obviously this is easier to implement and control in a smaller establishment than elsewhere, but that doesn’t take away from the effort and intuition. Friendly staff who explained everything well, and a perfectly decent selection of beers and ales. A great little nook to have a relaxing beer in during these... “unprecedented times”.

A great traditional pub in a narrow alley way off the Royal Mile. It's small but lovely place. A very cozy friendly place. Ceiling with beams and painted. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable.Limited food menu and no music . You will never regret to visit this pub because of the taste of local ales and the kindness of its staff.

Good variety of drinks and very reasonably priced for both drink and the basic lunches. Used to have very friendly staff but not anymore. If you're lucky you'll get excellent service, if not you'll get a surly witch or an arrogant boor.

Just off the Royal mile through an alley. Ideal for a light lunch at a reasonable price, soup and a sandwich, both pleasant and filling.
