I often call in here when I’m in Edinburgh, this time it was quiet and looking a bit ‘tired’. What they don’t do is play on the Rebus thing, there’s a couple of pictures but that’s it, some other places would be flogging t shirts,...More

As a fan of Detective Inspector Rebus I was keen to see where he is meant to treat as his local. This is a great old style pub and the absolute bonus was that Rebus's creator Ian Rankin was in there having a pint, made...More

I’ve read all the Ian Rankin mysteries but the Oxford Bar was a big disappointment. This is a tourist trap trap that doesn’t even try to be authentic. They don’t serve Deuchars IPA, the bartender is rude, and the tiny clan of regulars is catatonic....More

The Oxford Bar is all I imagined it would be. I've been several times on this trip. The Bar Lady offered a cheery greeting on entering the pub the first time I went. There's a couple of stools at the bar, which seems predominantly locals,...More

Our visit to Oxford Bar probably didn't last a minute. When my wife and I entered the near empty premises, we were greeted by an older gentleman who gruffly asked what we wanted to drink. Since it was a cold and rainy day, we inquired...More

New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town,
