Great activity.

What a entertaining and informative visit. Our guide, Paul was a real comic, had a few laughs. Worth a visit 😁

As the weather was very poor we looked for something to do and came across this attraction.we were not disappointed you descend into another world as Edinburgh used to be with houses and washing lines crossing the narrow street giving you a glance into how they lived. There is a guide who explaines in great detail everything about the place.

The Mary King's close is a 1h tour that shows some old buildings undergrounded that I am not going to spoil. It is located in Royal Mile street and it is mandatory to book for the tour in advance. It is a good idea to book it 1 day before to go. If you don't understand english there are few... More

This tour was all underground and showed people the ways in which people used to live. For a period of time, people lived under the first layer of the Royal Mile. It was insane to hear some of the stories of how they lived, illness and death! Really neat to learn the history!

The story is interesting but the tour guide was in a way too much of a hurry and he never stopped for question. Plus a big minus is the chance to stop and take photos that you later have to pay for. It takes way to much time.

We booked ahead which was needed as the tours were sold out over a busy December weekend. It is an hour long approx and we found it to be ample. I really enjoyed listening to our guide who was an engaging story teller. I thought having a guide escort you around was a good way to learn about the people... More

Well rehearsed guides with a rushed tour round mostly nothing more than empty storerooms along with a bit of furniture and a few dummies, leaflets and website give the impression that you are going to be viewing places that really do look like the streets of old Edinburgh when in fact only in the last few minutes of the tour... This is so overpriced in comparison to the Royal Yaught Brittania which lasts 2 hours and you can take as many pics as you like. The part where you are asked to leave money or a toy for a ghost who's room you cant even see was cheap and embarrassing. They should donate some of the entrance fee to the... More

Decided to give this tour a go. Some friends were already booked on the tour so me and another friend tagged along. I love things like this and am very interested in Historical things and gruesome tales of the past. I thought the tour was very interesting and our guide Rachel W. was great at explaining things. It was fascinating... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
