This is a one of a kind place. I went with my 7 year old daughter and we had a blast. The camera tour of the city (on the top floor) was very informative and Martha was very entertaining while giving us historical facts of the city. We love the glass maze and the rotating tunnel.

With the weather not being great we decided to pop in. Although you can return throughout the day we thought it was overpriced. Plenty to see and do but £52 for 2 adults and 2 children seemed rather steep. We covered to 6 floors including the show within 2 hours

My 7-year-old saw the Camera Obscura in a tourist ad and immediately wanted to go there. He liked it so much better than the Edinburgh Castle, so I'm glad we went there, before we went to the Camera Obscura. The staff is also brilliant!

Visited camera obscura for the first time with my 4 year old, it's located right by the castle so you can't miss it although I walked from train station and it's up a massive hill! I should of taken the city sightseeing bus and I would have got there much easier! Once there my ticket was £15 but I didn't... More

Although slightly pricey, we didn't have the time to take advantage of being able to go back at any time during the day which might have made it more worthwhile and we would have spent longer on different floors. I think you can do everything in under 2hrs. Lots of fun things to do with all ages. Had to queue... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
