A good time for a few hours. I loved the camera obscure, the tour is included into the price and well worth visiting.

This is a tricky one. We didn't actually get in to visit - so should I be writing a review? I think so, and this is why. This attraction was meant to be the highlight of our only day in Edinburgh and the fulfillment of a long held ambition. After spending late morning and early afternoon ambling through the pleasant... Hi I am really sorry to hear about your disappointment. Camera Obscuras work with daylight. In December, the sun sets early. Our last camera obscura show finishes 20 minutes before sunset, otherwise it gets a bit too dark to capture an image. So for most of December the last show was indeed at 3pm. However we are much more than... More

Camera Obscura is great fun for kids and adults alike. We had fun controlling the cameras to zoom in on people walking up the Royal Mile! The revolving tunnel is a highlight! (We went back to it seven times. We're in our 30s.) The Camera Obscura itself allowed us to see Edinburgh from a different angle, although on a rainy... More

This was an amazing place especially for children. The view at the top where you can see everything in the street below is something not to be missed.

This place is an absolute gem. The reviews here are well merited and the word-of-mouth on this place deservedly top-notch. There are several floors and plenty of 'hands-on' exhibits alongside the ones of a more pure optical illusionary nature. This place is simply a must for anyone visiting the city.

Wonderful experience! We spent hours there! There is so much to see and do with all sorts of magical illusions and tricks! Only drawback being anyone with mobility problems would possibly struggle as there is no lift and there are 5 sets of stairs. This is because it is a listed building. Would thoroughly recommend this to everyone.

Hi there! It’s brilliant to hear you had such a wonderful time with us. Like you have already said, we cannot gain the planning permission to install a lift due to us being an A-Listed building. However, we do have lots of seating on every floor as well as folding walking-stick chairs available from the ticket desk. Thanks so much... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
