This is one of the small castle amid a plain. This gives a good view of Edinburgh. If you love castles and history, it is a best off the beaten track. It is ruined but still standing. Climb through the stairs to get a nice skyline view.

I was born and bred in Edinburgh and yet never made it here until I was in my fifties. Largely ruined but still able to create a magical mediaeval atmosphere with a significant history. Well worth a visit. Great views of Edinburgh and the Lothians from the battlements. Lots of nooks and crannies to explore.

Although this castle is a well preserved ruin, it is so interesting and great to walk about all the wee nooks and crannies. Definitely worth a visit.

This wee spot is beautiful and the beauty of this historic ruin make the top of the art royal infirmary and sick kids hospitals across the road look like armature rubbish.. This Castle is centred in the middle of some beautiful woodland with parts you can stand with the castle in view and forget your even in the city.

The castle of Craigmillar is one of the most perfectly preserved castles in Scotland. It sits on a low hill looking over the Firth of Fifth just outside Edinburg. It was built and occupied by the Prestons of Scotland and is considered one of the most perfectly preserved castles in Scotland.

The palpable sense of history throughout this beautifully preserved castle is well worth the entrance fee. Guidebook is also worth buying.

Easy access by bus plus a walk up to the castle. I choose to walk through the park. Enjoyed clambering about the ruins. Very interesting history and great views. Some, but not enough signage. It could use either an audio tour (would have paid extra for it) and/or a fold-out map (should have been included with the entry fee).

Craigmillar is one of my favourite castles to visit. Especially as a child, I always loved coming here to play hide and seek. A great family day out, well worth a visit.

Craigmiller Castle is a lovely castle in pretty good shape, the grounds around it are also really nice for a walk. Often take the dog here as it is an ideal place for a relaxing wander.
