The tour guide was certainly enthusiastic but to be honest at £11 it was overpriced, spent too much time above ground rather than in the vaults and very little atmosphere and "scares" underground. Did not meet my expectations.

We started off doing the Royal Mile, history & castle tour, then the next day the underground dungeons tour, both of which we really enjoyed. Visited as a family of 2 adults/2 children (ages 13 & 12). Both guides were fantastic and very interested in what they were telling us - full marks to Kim and Craig. Would recommend either... More

We tried out the Doomed, Dead and Buried tour on Halloween Eve at 8:30pm. The entire tour was fantastic from start to finish lasting 1 hour and 45 minutes. Our guide Craig was great fun and full of good stories which he told in a way which engaged the entire group. Based on both the laughter and the screams it... More

Did a one-hour tour on a particularly busy and chilly Wednesday night. Our guide, Louise, was the perfect storyteller. The tour was engaging and entertaining. Meeting point was at the Mercat Monument, after which we walked around a bit and listened to the ghastly details of life in old Edinburgh. We spent about twenty minutes in The Blair Street Vaults... The best way to experience this amazing lump of rock - the way that the the society grew up here is unique in the world and this is the best way to understand it - don't hesitate to do this tour it is such a great introduction to a perplexing architectural conundrum. I am very easy to scare so I was reluctant to go on a ghost tour. I traveled with a friend and we each get to pick two or three activities that the other person has to do. My friend picked this ghost tour and so glad that she did. It was FANASTIC. The guides were interactive, funny, passionate, knowledgeable... More

Well just in from the Halloween Eve tour worth this amazing company. We went on the 11pm tour lasting an hr. You meet the guides at the Royal Mile beside the Merkat Monument. Our guide was "Zoe". Fantastic story telling, full of animation. I would definitely give her 5 Stars for the job she done. We were told some scary... More

We had a great time on the ghosts and ghouls tour. The tour guide was funny and a very good storyteller. I would say the tour is mostly good for the story telling experience, the vaults were pretty spooky but besides that not a huge amount of historical/site information. A fun couple of hours!

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
