Address
Neighbourhood: Southside & Holyrood
Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around university buildings in Southside, the sort of neighbourhood that supports a long string of second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for just a few pounds. In August the student population is replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking Southside are two great parks. The Meadows is a vast flat and sporty space where football, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, and golf often all take place side by side. Kids in its big playgrounds add to the joyful noise. Far bigger and much wilder, Holyrood Park extends to the east and provides a real hike up Arthur’s Seat, but the district is best known as the site of Scotland’s Parliament and its premier Royal Palace—and their steady stream of sightseers.

Feeling the Blues
Oct 2019
Always been a great fan of Walter Trout, blues guitarist extraordinaire, while trying to convert my wife to quality rock and blues music. The Queens Hall was the closest venue and once the tickers were bought we were all set. I was a bit disappointed with the seating in the arena as they were old hard wood church pews with the thinnest of cushions to protect the derriere. Not very successfully. There was no leg room to speak of and this detracted from a wonderful musical experience by guest artist Dan Patlansky and the legendary Walter Trout. The acoustics were spot on so I have no complaints other than the seating.

Hi Rabh56, we're sorry to hear that the pew seating spoiled your enjoyment of Walter Trout, although pleased to hear the acoustics were good! We're a former Georgian church and a listed building so are restricted in how much we can change internally. However, we have had the pew cushions replaced in the last week so we hope if you do come back for another show you'll find them more comfortable. Thanks for the review.

Went to meet up with friends who were on the bill and performed live on their UK tour. Everyone was so nice to us and everybody were happy and really satisfied with this gig. Would come back anytime.

Gig
Nov 2019 • Couples
Good venue for a gig. I went to see ‘bat for lashes’ and the venue made the sound ideal. It’s an old church and all seats have a good view of the stage.
Only downside is that it’s a bit of a trek from town centre about 15 mins however there is a couple of decent pubs en route if you like.
If in the balcony as I was it’s a bit of a trek to then at so have to time it well.

What a cracking little Venue the Queen's Hall is, with great acoustics this old Church is so good, you are very close to the entertainers and you can see all the action, with great helpful staff and a reasonable priced bar with a good selection of Drinks this Venue is not to be missed.

This is an old school (I know it was a church) type venue
Sep 2019 • Friends
This review is for the venue and not the band (I have to say that Peter Hook and the light were brilliant)
This is an intimate venue with no fancy lighting or outrageously large sound systems. Being a former church the natural acoustics are brilliant, the crowd can get going in all the standing areas but there’s seats if you fancy them. I’ve been to 4 gigs here over the years and they have all been brilliant and largely down to the intimacy of the venue.
The Christians, Lloyd Cole and Edwyn Collins all sold out and all with that old school concert vibe - a few flashing lights and brilliant sounds with enough room on the floor for dancing.
Definite 5 stars for the venue as drinks were quick to be served and not outrageously expensive.
Hope to get back soon.

Seating . tim Garland .
May 2019
Garland and co. were superb grat playing by some of the UK'S best talents. Had to leave early however as the seating is enough to break your back. Sat in purchased seats around the tables ..awfull. Moved to the church pew style seating further back also awful. Hard cramped and very poor angles designed to hurt! This sort of cheap nasty unhealthy seating should be condemned under health and safety legislation and certainly does not make it easy to concentrate on the music.

Hi Andy, we're sorry for the delay in responding to you and to hear that you had such an uncomfortable time at the Tim Garland event. The church pews are a part of our listed status (they date back to the 1800s) so it's difficult for us to do very much with them, especially as we are a charity so need to raise money to make any changes. However, we should soon be able to replace the seat cushions which will make them more comfortable and are looking at replacing the stall chairs as well. We hope that if you do try us again you will find things more to your comfort. Kind regards, Emma

Good venue and quite intimate.

Easily accessed venue and staffed by friendly people. Acoustics are good and the seating was comfortable. Drinks are allowed into the performance area which is a bonus if that's your thing.

Nice concert hall

The Queens Hall is a little out of the way but. We saw a band here and couldn't be more impressed. the place only hold 900 people and has no bad viewing areas. Nice facilities with a nicely stocked bar and really pleasant staff.
