Neighbourhood: Princes Street and Gardens
Glaswegians tease Edinburghers that their High Street is only half one, since buildings only line one side. But what they don’t say is how extraordinary the views are from Princes Street as a result. From here you look onto expansive and decorative public gardens beneath the mighty basalt cliffs on which Edinburgh’s Castle stands proud above the rest of the dramatic old town skyline. Yet many of those on Princes Street look the other way, as they’re concerned with chain store shopping or catching the tram or a train at main train station Waverley. But it’s not all utility here; the Scottish National Gallery rewards purposeless wandering, and December’s huge winter market in the gardens begins a season of revelry which ends with Hogmanay, Britain’s largest New Year’s street party.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We visited the Museum of the Royal Scots and the Royal Regiment of Scotland in March, just before lockdown. The museum is situated within Edinburgh Castle so entry is included in the Castle admission ticket price. It is extremely interesting giving a chronological history of the Royal Scots up to the present day.

Located on the Edinburgh Castle grounds, and included in the Castle audio guide, this small museum does a wonderful job of evoking emotions as it describes the absolutely heartbreaking stories of the lives of heroic soldiers, many of who were killed in action. The stories are moving and profound.

The museum covers the history of the Royal Scots in chronological order, from inception in 1633 to the present day, so in addition to stirring emotions it is also historical interesting.

Museum deals with the current regiment and it's predecessors.Maybe that explains why occasionally campaigns are jumbled up together.

A lot of exhibits in a rather small place, worth the visit especially in case of bad weather. You can make it fast, or spend hours if you start to dign into the history of the Regiment...

The Royal Scots Regimental Museum is an interesting historical museum, within Edinburgh Castle. Price for Castle entry includes entry to this museum. However on entering you will notice, what they call "Big Bertha", which is a big brass shell which has been modified to be a donation box! The reason is that the museum depends entirely on donations to survive. So, give if you can. The museum has a very good collection of historical exhibits, including weapons, uniforms, letters, pictures, maps and a host of other items. The exhibits include items and information up to the present day. Recommended.

The Royal Scots have a proud history, so visiting here whilst at Edinburgh castle was an easy win for me. There were some good artefacts, medals, and pictures. Unfortunately the same issues were apparent here as in the close by Nation War Museum. Whilst I appreciate that some historical items cannot be brightly lit, the museum was dark and this made much of the information hard to read. Continuity could also have been improved. Still worth a visit though.

The museum is dedicated to Scotland’s Infantry. The museum is small but well worth visiting. The museum contains a number of life-size life-like statues/mannequins, paintings, battle scenes, weapons and metals and honors.

It was a joy to visit this place. I was lucky enough to visit this place right before the 1 O'clock gun shooting so the place was not crowded and most enjoyable. I would never tell anyone to rush through Edinburgh Castle so this is just another spot for you to explore and enjoy!

The Royal Scots Museum is also part of the Edinburgh Castle admission. There are numerous exhibits and worth some time to explore while at the castle
