After being here a few times I recommended this place to my friends who'd never been before. I was sure they would get a pleasant experience with good food. How wrong was I!! One of my friends in particular suffers with social anxiety and I assured her this place would be tranquil and relaxed. On arriving we took to our seats and browsed the menu. The soup was Chicken, almond, kale and pulses with seaweed. My friend took and interest but was unsure about commiting to the order incase she didn't like the soup, so she requested to the friendly waitress if she could possibly taste the soup first. The waitress said she would check with her manager. The manager then came over. He opened with "what is the problem?" In a rather snippy tone. We asked our request to which he replied, "fine but it will be cold. It won't heat it up!"

I was shocked with the abrupt nature of the conversation. I felt embarrassed in front of my friends that the manger was being so rude. We ordered BLTs in the end. But I won't be recommending this place to my friends again and I won't be coming back.

When I tell the staff I saw a rat run across the floor, I expect more than a shrug!

Beer smelt of egg and everyone seemed disinterested in the customers.

Small coffee but wholesome vibe

The staff were absolutely amazing & I even got chatting with some fellow Leith locals. A real wholesome, community vibe to this cafe.
The cosy decor of the place was stunning. Hanging baskets from the ceiling & even a cosy fireplace nestled in the corner.
This wee business have a wonderful menu on offer too. Plenty of soups, quiches and drinks.
The only negative to this place was that perhaps the price of coffee was a tad high for the size of cup. But I can forgive based on the pleasantness of the staff & ambience.

Poorly Trained Staff Let Place Down

Was there for a friend's party recently. The place is quite bare & industrial & I think may have been taken over last year. They have some ok craft beers on draught & in can. Poor wine selection. Spirits fine.
It's quite a cool (cold) venue so take a jumper! Its an old railway arch with poorly insulated arch inserts.
Staff not trained to work a busy bar going to who shouts loudest not paying attention to who came first. that's a basic. While I was waiting to be served , the guy in front at bar orders a Porter and barmaid starts pouring him a lager. When he drew this to her attention she told him "But you Ordered pilsner !". He explained he had ordered a Porter & didn't like lager (pilsner). Unbelievably she was insistent the guy had got his own drink order wrong. To compound matters the eavesdropping other barman stepped in demanding an apology................from the customer! I thought they were at the windup! Customer was speechless. Luckily!
The music was played really loud which probably didn't help bar staff hear orders but you don't take out your mistakes on customers.
It has potential but staff need development or motivation.
