Neighbourhood: Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.

Excellent massage, fitted us in on short-notice, gave up their lunch break to accommodate us. What service! Didn’t realise I was so stressed and tense, felt like I had a great workout and left feeling two inches taller. Lots of useful advice given to both myself and my wife. Well trained therapists, both from Chang Mai Thai massage school which we have been lucky enough to visit on holiday. Hadn’t realised how much we’d missed great massage. Will definitely go back and would highly recommend. Full COVID measures in place, wore a mask throughout.

What an experience, this has to be one of the best massages I have ever had. My back neck and shoulder was so knotted and I was in a lot of pain, this massage was a miracle. I feel so much better. Already booked to go back. You must try this. Thank you

I decided to try the Shivago Thai clinic based on the reviews here on Tripadvisor during my recent trip to Edinburgh, and I was not disappointed. I enjoyed a 30minute beck, neck and back massage which helped to alleviate the tightness in the muscles from on-going back issues that were aggravated by the flight from Canada to the UK. I was greeted by very friendly staff and made to feel very welcome. It was evident from the clientele, that it is a popular clinic for many locals, as clients were greeted by name. Having been to many high-end spas for massage treatments, this clinic provides an unassuming, honest and satisfying therapeutic experience without all the window-dressing. Perfectly located just off the Royal Mile, it is the perfect treat after a long day of site-seeing.

At the Edinburgh Festival in 2010, as i was wondering about the beautiful city of Edinburgh i stumbled across Shivago Thai Clinic on a side street. I saw they were doing a 10 minute neck/back massage for £12 and thought just the tonic. My friend and i walked in to talk with the therapists and both received shoulder/back massage. I had explained to therapist i had always suffered from tight shoulders and tightness in the top of my back due to the sports i engaged in. The therapist suggested some cupping to promote circulation. After that short session that day i felt amazing and the last 3 years i have returned regularly once a month or twice sometimes for a half hour massage. The good thing about this experience is its taylored to the needs of each individual client and they can choose from a variety of therapies. I have tried Thai Cupping, scraping, Thai Hot Herbal Compress Therapy (Brilliant to warm up the muscles before the massage), head massage and the general deep tissues massage. The good thing about this clinic is you can go in and receive a massage fully clothed. This is one of the things people have been put off by when i have informed them of my experience.

I would highly recommend Shivago Thai Clinic to anyone. Friendly staff team, excellent therapies and a lovely relaxing cup of herbal tea at the end. The added bonus is if you like food Kei the owner loves to inform you of the best and latest new eateries around Edinburgh and what a knowlegable guy too. What are you waiting for this will enhance your life completely!!!!

I found Shivago Clinin in 2008 and have returned ever since. I have Traditional Thai treatments from Kei, I allow him to work intuitively with what I need to restore my wellbeing and I always leave feeling full of life and envigorated. My session usually comprises of herbal compress, cupping and Thai Massage. You are given loose clothing to wear for session, which puts you totally at ease and allows Kei to work with you.
I have been involved in altenative healing methods, both giving and receiving for many years, so I am fully aware of practitioners and healing modalities, I would truly recommend Kei and his clinic as outstaning in what they provid especially if you want total holistic wellbeing, as his advice in invaluable - but even if you wish to just be cared for and relax in your lunchtime - this is the place to go.
As I live in Helensburgh its a four hour round trip for me, but worth every moment - Thank you Kei and everyone at Shivago for being the friendly, beautiful service you are and Good Luch in all your future enterprises - you're doing wornderful work - long may it continue and hopefully one day I will get over to train with you :-) In love and light Elma Chapman

They do the most amazing leg massage I have ever had, really releasing all the tension, you actually feel taller afterwards. Same for arms. Cupping on the back is a relief as well of all those tight noughts. And the hot compress is very relaxing, if you're just looking for a nice time. The staff are kind and receive you with warmth and a very welcoming stance. Thoroughly recommend. PS - did all that on different days :)

You are guaranteed a warm welcome at Shivago. I have received a number of treatments including cupping, hot compress and traditional thai massage. All of theses treatments have been carried out after discussion to ascertain which treatment may be best suited to treat me. The benefits are also fully explained beforehand. Sometimes I require firm massage and on other days a move gentle approach. They are fabulous at both and the benefits can be felt straight away. Soothing traditional tea is served afterwards, allowing you to gather yourself before leaving.
This is a professional yet relaxing friendly environment which I would strongly recommend.

I've had Thai treatments for years - am a yoga teacher, and also did foundational thai massage myself. These people are one of the few I'd whole heartedly recommend. So many 'practitioners' make all sorts of claims, and in the end I've ended up disappointed - especially the gym-beauty-salon approaches (which I avoid). The setup here is informed by a legitimate lineage and tradition, and the practices authentic.

I require very intense treatments or it not worth the time - and Kei knows what he's doing. That said, the can also be as gentle as a butterfly for new beginners. There's a lovely spiritual social atmosphere to the place as well.

I've been suffering back aches for long time and I went to this place convencied by Tripadvisor recommendations. They did not upset me. The staff in there is very kind, friendly and polite. The masseuse knew exactly where my ache was inmediately and did her best to relief it. We started with hot compressed tea, then massaging, cupping and some clapping. She explained to me every step and asked me for permission once I knew the consequences. At the end of the session, she offered me a delicious tea. Some days later I felt much relieved. It really worked! And now I have asked for a new appointment there. :)
