Shivago Thai Clinic is a family run practice led by Kei and Hoeyyn De Freitas who are passionate adherents of the art of traditional Thai Healing and Asian Medicine.

Established in London in 2006, Shivago moved to Edinburgh in 2008 after brief visits to Edinburgh cemented Kei and Hoeyyn's love for the city. Shivago Thai Clinic has built a solid reputation in Traditional Thai Therapy within Scotland and England, and has been featured in many press and media reports. The clinic has developed a regular following of clients who love authentic traditional Thai therapies.

Shivago is located just off the historic Royal Mile, has a very traditional atmosphere and offers a relaxing respite from the hubbub of the city. To be honest, I chose Shivago Thai Therapy because Google Maps said it was close to my hotel, but it ended it ended up being my good fortune in the end. I thought Thai massage was just an option, but it is what they do. As I learned, this type of massage is on the floor, not on a table;... More

Shivago massages are not for the weak! They deliver strong and effective medical massages meant to fix problems, not to pamper. I have been to them a few times when I've been suffering from muscle pain, and each time I've left pain-free after they worked their magic. I cannot recommend them highly enough to anyone who is looking for a... More

I have been going to Shivago regularly for over 2 years and the therapist has worked wonders. When I first went my back was so tense and painful and now it is so much better. The therapist focuses on the areas of tension. I have also had cupping applied and whilst it might look painful it's not and it really... More

I was very lucky to find Shivago at a time in my life when my life was incredibly stressful. Regular sessions of massage over the years focusing on neck, shoulder, and back have been effective treatments helping to promote my return to physical and mental health. The therapists there I consider friends now. Kei, Hoeyyn, and Rumi many thanks.

I messaged Shivago Clinic to see if I could make a last minute appointment and they were quick to respond and very accommodating. My husband and I had been traveling across the UK and after walking over 100 miles collectively, my body was starting to feel it by the time we arrived in Edinburgh. Hoyn answered all of my questions... More

Have experienced real health improvements during the past year from my (at times) biweekly sessions at the Shivago Thai Clinic. Would not have anyone else but Kei deal with my middle-aged body starting to ache from old sports injuries, and life in general - twisted ankles and near ligament tears to knees, shoulders and elbows. Oriental Medicine - I am... More

I have had a few massages in the last couple of months, normally I'd go for a relaxing, soothing treatment. This is quite different and what really struck me was Kei's unerring ability to find all the sore, tight areas causing me problems. His experience and expertise was very obvious. I've already booked my next appointment to get some lasting... More

Fabulous massage, the real deal, a masseur who takes care to listen and treats what you need, would highly recommend any weary traveler or like me ex-dancer with lots of aches and pains. Will not be disappointed. Highly recommended

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
