About
Your host/guide on the Edinburgh Guided Tour could be Stuart Usher, or his son Richard Usher, or one of our professional historians, Dr Alison Duncan or David Forsyth, or recent acquisitions Douglas Graham or Craig Goodman. Meet outside Usher Hall, Scotland's premier concert hall (donated to Edinburgh by Stuart's family who have been associated with Scotland, and Edinburgh for centuries). See and hear about the majestic Castle (from the outside, unless you book a Private Tour) then witness the ancient Public and Coffee houses some of which date back to the 1400's, and also Edinburgh's secret 'closes' and sites associated with the many incredible people which Edinburgh has produced such as Robert Burns, David Hume, Sir Walter Scott, Robert Louis Stevenson, Alexander Graham Bell, and Adam Smith. See our fantastic reviews; they richly demonstrate that we provide a tour that will thoroughly entertain you and will always stay with you!

We previously enjoyed a private tour with Stuart Usher so much so that we returned in February 2020 with a couple of friends. This time his son, Richard, looked after us and showed us different sites. Both were very informative but also fun. Both gentlemen gave their unique take on the sights of Edinburgh and did so passionately with stories and a touch of humour. Highly recommend and well worth arranging a private tour. Both went out of their way to ensure it was memorable.

Dear Anne Thank you so much for your sparkling Review and glad that you happened to get Richard for your most recent Tour. You now have had both of us. Who do you think is the better Guide??! I jest, please disregard that question ..... it is just the devil in me jumping up again; he is never far away, just dying to cause trouble! We are delighted that you enjoyed your Tour with Richard so much. Both Richard and self enjoy our twice daily tours as much as our Clients do ..... it is all good sociable fun, meeting thousands new people from all over the globe and showing off our glorious city of Edinburgh to them. We are closed for the present because of the C plague but will open the first day we are allowed to. Anne, you really must come again and we will all have a whale of a time....... paint Edinburgh red if you want, I'll be there! Best wishes Stuart U

I learned more about Edinburgh on this walking tour than I ever did by walking around Edinburgh by myself for a few days! (And I walked a lot!). I also saw fascinating parts of the city centre I never discovered by myself !! (As they were hidden in little alleyways). It really helped me understand edinburgh and its history thank you! The three hour tour went by so quickly as it was really enjoyable and we were in good company throughout. Great relaxed welcoming vibe from the guide but we also learned a lot too without feeling overwhelmed :D I really loved the lunch break we took in a cafe which was really intresting historically. I wont say much about it as I dont want to spoil it for others :D Big bonus the coffee and cake was delicious!! Thanks again for a memorable tour :))

Dear Anz I am delighted that you learnt so much on our Tour of Edinburgh and thank you so much for your glowing Review.. The three hours of the Tour always absolutely fly past for me as well. Time flies when one and all are enjoying themselves! Brodie was a devil alright but that did not stop him becoming something of a hero to the people of Edinburgh ...... just like Robin Hood in England! It would be lovely to see you again in Edinburgh. Best wishes Stuart Usher.

Because that’s what we got. For just over 200 pounds we had a 3.5 hour private tour with the ex head of the history department of the national museum of Scotland. Completely insane. Best money we spent on the trip!

Dear karami Thank you so much for your marvellous Review of your Tour with our David Forsyth, the retired Head of the History Department of the National Musuem of Scotland! It is a superb Museum jampacked with so many ancient and historical items of just about every description. And there is no one better than David to have personally shown you the most outstanding of them! Thanks again. Best wishes Stuart U.

This is the tour to take if you want to spend a couple of hours exploring Edinburgh by foot. Our guide, Alison, was EXCELLENT! As an expert in the history of the city, and Scotland, she not only provided context for what we were seeing, but was able to weave in stories of the people who lived in the castle as well as average city dwellers to really bring the history to life. We could almost imagine the daily lives of the people as we stood in a medieval courtyard just off the busy High Street. We would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Edinburgh.

Dear Passen Many thanks for your glowing Review of your Tour with our Dr Alison Duncan. You hit the nail on the head by stating the Alison is EXCELLENT at sharing her very extensive knowledge of Edinburgh's past and present. Bringing the lives of the people who lived in Edinburgh hundreds of years ago to life makes for a truly memorable experience. For many life was extremely tough, not to mention tenuous, in those far off times. We would love to welcome you back to Edinburgh some sweet day! Best wishes Stuart U.

It was a joy to spend the day with Alison. She was passionate about the city and its history and struck the right balance between historical content and lay person human interest. She engages the group in a comfortable manner and flexes to meet the needs and interests of whoever she has with her that day. Highly recommend joining one of her tours.

Fantastic tour, the weather was awful so many people didn't show up and it was just the 2 of us. However, Richard arrived at the appointed location early (as we did as well) and gave us the most informative tour of Edinburgh old town and new town. His ties to the City and local knowledge were second to none. We asked many questions and he cheerfully answered all including suggestions for additional tours and dining experiences. We liked his recommendation of Haggis & Whisky House so much we went back a second time. This is a real historic tour and we highly recommend going, you won't be disappointed. Whit and Nancy

Dear Whit and Nancy. Fulsome thanks for your marvellous Review of your Tour with Richard. Talking about the weather today is absolutely Baltic with a freezing wind and showers! Richard knows his Edinburgh very well; I think he will soon overtake me! Delighted that you did not let the foul weather get you both down and made the best of it. Also that you followed up on his Haggis and Whisky House recommendation. There are so many marvellous pubs in Edinburgh one is rather spoilt for choice. Please do visit us again; you will be more than welcome. Better to choose a warmer time of year! Best wishes to you both Stuart U.

We recently did a private walking tour with Stuart and we loved it. It was our first time visiting the city and Stuart did a wonderful job introducing us to the city's vibrant history and architecture. He kept us all engaged with his stories and questions. Highly recommend!

Our tour guide David took us on a 3 hour walk through the old city in a small group. David knows so much about the city, its history, architecture and culture. From the start at Usher Hall to the finish near the Royal Mile, it was a feast to hear him talk with so much passion. David connected very well with all the members of the group and seemed very interested in us too. Even though the walk is 3 hours, the tempo is very low. You need to be fit to walk, climb some stairs and hills, but the level of fitness required is not very high, so don’t be afraid to book this tour because of the length. It’s worth it.

Dear V4471C Many thanks for your most fulsome Review of your Tour with our David Forsyth! We keep our groups small because that makes for a far better experience for our Clients ..... a max of 10 per Guide. We are delighted that you enjoyed the Tour with David to the full and learnt a fair bit about the history, etc, of our ancient city. And thank you for recommending us so nicely. Best wishes Stuart U.

Mr.Fraser was so wonderful. He was very knowledgable and full of life. He had a wonderful voice and sang some scottish songs beautifully. We were a mixed group (13 to 65) with one of our group members having a slight disability. He was so very considerate, ensured that we only climbed down and never up any stairs and still covered everything and more. He also made sure he stopped at places with seating so that everyone could rest a bit. Thank you for a memorable tour!

Dear 570swa Thank you so much for your great and glowing Review with Edinburgh Guided Tour! We do not have a guide called Fraser. We think you mean either our Douglas Graham or our David Forsyth both of whom are good singers! EGT always ensures that all our guides treat the elderly, the not so mobile and disabled with great care and consideration. We are delighted that you found your Tour with us so memorable and enjoyable and would be delighted to host you again some sweet day?! Best wishes Stuart U.
