Afternoon visit

Interesting tour with a knowledgeable guide, who happened to be French. Seeing bits of Edinburgh that you wouldn't necessary realise where there.

My first thought was I wish I had put a hat on, chilly when having to stand around at various points, come prepared that's my advice. Our guide was Lydia, very much a great entertainer impressive with long red dreadlocks and black full length cape. Great group Lydia getting some involved in the story telling...game for a laugh. Warmth!!! Underground... More

Full of facts and great group for the tour. Very interesting and would recommend this to anyone. The price and length of the tour was spot on and couldn't fault it

Thank you James for this very interesting Ghost-Underground tour. It was very funny and creepy. It was interesting to learn something about the "other side" of Edinburgh. Information they are not written in all the travel-books.

Well worth paying £7 per head to participate in this walking tour that is both insightful and informative. A particular highlight was being taken into the vaults where you are told three bone chilling stories that will linger in the back of your mind for the remainder of the trip. Definitely worth doing.

What a load of rubbish. We went on this one as they told us the other tours weren't running only to find walking through the graveyard that they were and that you can actually get into the covenanters prison. Probably should have guessed as the guide was dressed in a ridiculous costume. We asked for our money back and were... More

Underground is very misleading. The only "underground" part of this tour is in an old basement. Nothing very spectacular about this tour, except for the guide. She did very well with the sub-par locations she had to work with. I would not suggest this tour to anyone.

I really enjoyed the graveyard tour, the guide had a great deal of history about the graveyard and stores with a lot of facts and figures. The underground cavern resulted in almost 40 photos, many with orbs. Spooky and fun!!

i have been on this tour twice now. Both times my tour guide has been Cassandra, she is very informative and does a good job. The tour itself is quite spooky especially in the vaults. I personally have experienced unexplainable things both times. The graveyard is fascinating. I have a feeling every time I visit Edinburgh I will do this... More

I cannot remember the guides name but he was a local lad, with a long black coat and had a top hat with long, curly dark hair. He was very informative in terms of historical knowledge which was great to know! We had a good tour around the royal mile and visited the graveyard before going to some underground 'tombs/dungeons'.... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
