Me and my husband went to Edinburgh to celebrate my 50th birthday and we had pre-booked the Walking Tour of Royal Mile and the Outlander Day tour before we arrived in Scotland. Starting with the Walking Tour. We were met by Josh and since we were the only guest for the day, the tour got into a "private tour" Josh... More

My mom and I took the walking tour the day after our arrival to Edinburgh. We ended up being the only two on the tour so it was a very personal experience. Our tour guide Josh was so informative with endless tidbits on Edinburgh history. (We really enjoyed his knowledge of architecture and relation of history to past and present... More

We were in Scotland for a long weekend. We felt so fortunate to have Sam as our tour guide. Not only is Sam incredibly knowledgeable about all things Outlander, but this tour is a great one to learn a bit of Scottish history and see Outlander sites near Edinburgh. We highly recommend Edinburgh Tour Guides and Sam!

Our tour yesterday was with Sam. My husband has never watched outlander and I am a big fan. The tour we both thought was brilliant. The sights are fantastic and Sams knowledge is amazing. We would really recommend this tour to fans but it's brilliant if you never watched the show before.

I came to Edinburgh over the Halloween weekend, had a good look round, used three different tour guides, wasn't let down, all informative, friendly and engaging, always good to take one, because you could walk past a place and realise later when you look here on TripAdvisor that you should have stopped and had a look. And this is where... More

We did the day Outlander tour with Sam as our tour guide. We loved that we were picked up right at our door and that it was a private tour. The van was spacious and comfortable. As for the tour itself, we visited a lot for the time we had, and Sam was definitely knowledgeable about all of the Outlander... More

We did 2 small vehicle tours, this one was nice but it could have been improved upon by maybe adding some Scottish music and more anecdotes of the country itself. Felt more like a taxi ride than a tour. The other tour we did the guide was more forthcoming with Scottish history & current events and would also play songs... More

I remember this tour well. It was one of the most uncomfortable tours of my life. I wish I had played some music at least then I would not have had to listen to the discussion that was being had about the cleanliness of Scottish Men, which quite frankly left me speechless. However you are right it was a long... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
