About City of the Dead Tours
Our walks are written and researched by historical author and award winning novelist, J A Henderson. Our guides are a mixture of historians and professional entertainers, picked for their ability to improvise entertain. As a result we have enjoyed years of rave media reviews. City of the Dead has been named “Britain’s Best Ghost Walk” by Scare.com, Yahoo! Travel, the Sun Newspaper and Virgin Media and is the only Scottish attraction to be short listed for the prestigious Screamie Awards (3 times!) and the Luxury Travel Awards. We also won Scare Tours ‘Best Ghost Tour’ award. Best of all we have sole access to two of the word’s most haunted sites. Damnation Alley is in the South Bridge Vaults and part of Edinburgh’s legendary Underground City. The Covenanter’s Prison is a locked section of Greyfriars Graveyard and lair of the infamous‘Mackenzie Poltergeist’. This entity is the best documented supernatural case of all time and responsible for hundreds of ‘attacks’ on the tours.

We were lucky enough to be the only two people on our tour, led by Grant, and had a fantastic time! Grant was incredibly knowledgeable and had man creepy stories to share with us. He was funny and created a deeply spooky vibe which is hard with only two people but he succeeded brilliantly. We found the vaults especially creepy given how totally pitch dark it is down there. It was great to also get access to the covenanters prison; and some fascinating history about the place to! If you are in Edinburgh and looking for a ghost tour that will genuinely unnerve you, look no further!

My family and I went on the City of the Dead Tour and had a great time. Adam had the perfect amount of humour, knowledge and scares. Would definitely recommend to anyone, especially if you get Adam.

Local to the area but trouble finding things to do on a Friday night because of lock down. (The tour was conducted in a Covid safe manner I may add). Thoroughly enjoyed the extremely interesting and entertaining tour with (I think Rebecca). Learned some facts that even being a local I hadn’t come across before! Give this one a definite thumbs up!
