The World Famous Underground Ghost Tour

At street level, Edinburgh is a peaceful and pretty city—but the subterranean tunnels below tell an entirely different story. On this ghostly walking tour, explore historic sites including Greyfriars Kirkyard and St. Giles’ Cathedral with your enthusiastic guide, and hear chilling tales of murder and revenge. Delve down into underground caverns normally closed to the public, and learn of Edinburgh’s grim and gruesome past.

Gets fairly busy due to people out for walks during lock down so remember your face mask and try and remain socially distanced. Most shops and cafés are closed due to lock down restrictions, but a few are still offering takeaway options along the promenade. Plenty of dog walkers and families alike. Open beach area with sand and sea, can get very cold with the chilly sea wind blowing in.

I just love the beautiful part of Edinburgh. Beautiful beach and lovely promenade to walk along. Great for everyone. Ok it’s lockdown so not much open but when things do get back to normal there are plenty of nice places to choose from to eat and shop.

If you are visiting Edinburgh City Centre, and would like an afternoon by the beach then head for Portobello Beach. It is a beautiful beach, lovely sand and great little coffee stands, ice cream wagon and lovely coffee shops all with outside seating. along the prom. What struck me was the holiday vibe about the place. But the best part of all of this is that the public toilets were open. They were being supervised but everyone was happy to wait and the were never more than a couple of people waiting, hey were clean, tidy, had towels, bins & toilet paper . Not to much to ask but in this day and age, when most of the toilets in Scotland are closed. So well done Edinburgh City Council for the restoration and for making the place such a gem. We will be back.

A short bus ride from Edinburgh city centre is the beach. Lovely sandy beach which at this time of year is open to dogs. Nice promenade to walk along and enjoy the views if you don't want to get your feet sandy.

This is a lovely, traditional seaside resort not far from Edinburgh city centre. The beach has a large area of very clean sand and the adjacent promenade is a delight to stroll along.
