Portobello is a hidden gem only a 20 minute bus ride (No.26) from the centre of Edinburgh. With a mile of golden sand and spectacular views over the Forth from the prom Porty (as the locals call it) has a range of nice bars, eateries...More

Don't go here. If you want a trip to the beach then you can get a bus for £5 to Gullane Beach which is much cleaner, nicer and generally a far better beach than Portobello.

We have visited this area many times but particularly enjoy it in the autumn when it is a little quieter. Our Jack Russell loves playing on the beach and when she’s had enough running around there are a few good dog friendly places for food....More

Not many tourists come to Portobello, but a nice walk along the front or the sandy beach is worth the trouble of taking the bus to get there. There are many cafes to stop for coffee or lunch... beware, I was there on a Sunday...More

Portobello Beach is a very lovely beach, with a few cafe's and only roughly 20 mins by bus from the city Centre. Lovely place for a day out.

We visited the beach with friends. The car park was £2...transferable to other car parks. Our two dogs had a fantastic day and were walked as far as North Berwick. Beautiful coastline A great day out!

About half an hour by bus from the city centre is Portobello, always good for a wander and an ice cream on one of Edinburgh's non-rainy days

This is Edinburgh's traditional seaside town. Nice beach and promenade. All the expected amenities. Good transport links. Would recommend.

Walked along the promenade alongside the beach. Beautiful views and nice ambience along here. There are a few restaurants, cafes and pubs dotted along here which you can stop at to get some refreshments. Just a nice walk to do if you're in Edinburgh.

This is a great beach to visit. Lovely and clean with a great walkway. The swimming baths are so nostalgic. The eating places have certainly became much more upmarket. A short walk to the town is also very pleasant. All in all I would recommend...More

We walked a fair amount of the beachfront at Portobello and I don't recall seeing any stacks of sunloungers like you might see in the Med, best take something with you.
