Our party of 8 thoroughly enjoyed a half-day private tour of Edinburgh with Chris earlier this month. Chris picked us up at our hotel and we visited the castle the lovely Dean Village and Queensferry (with a pub stop) and had a sniff or two of whiskey in the graveyard! This tour was fantastic, we were able to experience and... More

Chris was our private guide for the Central Highlands tour. My wife and I were blown away by Chris' tour. We went for a 15 day vacation around the UK and Ireland and Chris was by far the best guide we had on our trip. He lives in Edinburgh and really knows his stuff. The great part of the tour... More

Having booked and paid online Chris Walker arranged to meet us at our apartment. The tour lasted about 3 hours and we walked about 4 miles. The terrain is hilly but chris would adapt it if you couldn't manage. I asked to see some of the Harry Potter sights which he included. Chris was very friendly, spoke passionately and knowledgeably... More

We really enjoyed our Central Highlands Tour with Chris. He was very accommodating as we were traveling with our 4 year old daughter. It was nice to experience the sites with someone who has "Local Eyes".

We booked a Edinburgh city tour with Local Eyes and was taken round with Chris. We were a group of 20 mixed ages. Chris was very considerate of walking pace for our more senior walkers. Chris was professional, friendly and informative! Our favourite was being taken to Dean Village. Chris was patient and had a lovely personality. His warm sincerity... More

Chris took the 4 of us to North Berwick, the town where he grew up. We visited the harbour and climbed the hill. We stopped at several places, among which was Tantallon Castle and before he dropped us of at the airport at the end of the day, we visited charming Dean Village in Edinburgh. Chris is an excellent guide... More

Chris was our private guide on the Central Highland Tour. Using Local Eyes Tours was a great way to see the highlands and learn about the history of Scotland along the way. Even our two children (14 yrs and 12 yrs) had a good time seeing the sights and learning about Scottish history – Well done Chris! Enough can’t be... More

John did such a great job acclimating us with 'Old Town' Edinburgh ~ making us comfortable enough to navigate the city with confidence after the tour ended. His knowledge, stories, and experiences added the detail and understanding we wanted from this morning excursion. After returning from the walking tour, I looked through the official city guide book left in the... More

Peter was a really good tour guide for the 'new city' tour of Edinburgh. He told us a lot of interesting historical facts and stories, and it was fun to spend a few hours walking with him.

2 families traveling to Edinburgh with kids booked local eyes for 2 private day tours. Will took very good care of us. The van was comfortable, clean and stocked with water and treats for our journey. And we were picked up right at our apartment. The first day was to St Andrews. since Will attended college in this town, we... More

Staying in Princes Street and Gardens

Neighbourhood Profile
Princes Street and Gardens
Glaswegians tease Edinburghers that their High Street is only half one, since buildings only line one side. But what they don’t say is how extraordinary the views are from Princes Street as a result. From here you look onto expansive and decorative public gardens beneath the mighty basalt cliffs on which Edinburgh’s Castle stands proud above the rest of the dramatic old town skyline. Yet many of those on Princes Street look the other way, as they’re concerned with chain store shopping or catching the tram or a train at main train station Waverley. But it’s not all utility here; the Scottish National Gallery rewards purposeless wandering, and December’s huge winter market in the gardens begins a season of revelry which ends with Hogmanay, Britain’s largest New Year’s street party.
