Two of us went here on Friday 10th Dec. Sign on door saying wear a mask "if you can". We both put our masks on. Really narrow pub and really busy. On reflection shouldn't have gone in but there was a good atmosphere......or so we thought. First we had to shout our order over the people sitting all along the bar. The barman (not wearing a mask) couldn't hear. So my friend pulled his mask down to repeat the request. Before we knew it the one female server was shouting across to put his mask back on. Which he did. Now at this point, she and us and maybe a couple of other people were the only ones wearing masks. We got our drinks and moved to as roomy a position as possible. But more people kept coming in. No control on numbers whatsoever. Then she started shouting at us to move. Where to we couldn't see sense. So we tried to reason and she started shouting about drinking with our masks on!!!! Crazy stuff. she also said things like "I am allowing you to drink here". It was embarrassing at this stage and I could see other people squirming around and looking very uncomfortable. We quickly downed our drinks and as I leaned in to put my glass at the bar I had a polite word with here and recommended that she needed to stop shouting at patrons. To this she pulled her mask away from her face and screamed "you try and do this job".
The most uncomfortable experience in a pub ever. Avoid.

Oh my days we had so so much fun in this pub! The bar staff - Jo,Michael and Sarah were absolutely lovely- helpful, kind and hilarious. The music was fantastic. We only popped in for a half and ended up staying until closing. Really great selection of drinks. Its warm, inviting and I couldn’t recommend more. Its a shame we live in London or Id pop back this evening! Thanks Sandy Bells, We will never forget you!

Absolutely lovely pub, live music, a really good whisky selection, innis and Gunn on tap and most importantly, chicken and mushroom pies! Small but lovely! Drop by for a deam

One of my most favourite little pubs in Edinburgh! Even if there’s only a few people in the place is full of charm and always a good few characters. If you can catch it when it’s a lot quieter it’s a lovely spot to just have a pint and maybe get a few pages set of a book read. If it’s slightly busier then the trad sessions are just starting and there’s always a great buzz and if it’s super busy then the place just feels you’ve been transported to a proper old fashioned traditional pub from the movies: heaps of chat, great live music and plenty of pints flowing. It’s fantastic! Wonderful staff too. You have to go whenever you’re in town!

This pub has clearly been around forever and so have the gentlemen jamming folk music and drinking beer in the back. The music was lively and improvised. The bartenders were friendly and the beer prices were reasonable. Unfortunately, we were too full from dinner to drink more than one beer but we enjoyed it while we had the one pint.
The dog must have been tuckered out from the beautiful day because he was not around for our visit.

The music is not traditional - it’s modern

The bartenders were incredibly rude, and would go out of their way to ignore those who weren’t local

The only decent part of the bar was local dog, a white pitbull who was super sweet and looking for pets from anyone who would give her attention

We went here with friends who had visited before and said that it had great music and the local dog would wander around the pub for fuss and vet everyone who came in. The place was packed when we arrived and we struggled to find a seat so right at the very bottom of the pub was a table which had a sign on it that said reserved for musicians at 4.30pm, as it was gone 9pm we sat down and was not asked to move and everyone around said that nobody had turned up. We then discovered another sign that said reserved from 6.30pm and another that said reserved from 8pm. It was quite funny but we ordered drinks and by now it was 9.30pm. A couple of guys came in and came to our table and very rudely told us to move as they were the band and they needed the space and we asked if we could sit on the end of the table to be abruptly told no, we moved infront of the fireplace and enquired wit the bar staff where the local dog was to be informed he was at home as he was a pain to the customers so he did not come in much. After about half an hour the musicians started playing for a couple of minutes and then stopped ordered another drink from the bar and started chatting whilst another member turned up and started to unpack his instrument, we anxiously waited for the music to start again and after 15 minutes they looked like they had no intention of striking up so we left very unimpressed with the place.

We totally enjoyed our visit last Saturday night. The performers were excellent though being sat in the back corner did mute the sound of their instruments quite a bit. It was one of our party’s birthday and it totally made his visit to Edinburgh to be sung happy birthday to by the entire pub with a bagpipe lead!
The drink prices are good with a pint of beer and 3 glasses of wine costing less than £15. The Tempranillo was a very nice wine too!
