I'm usually not a fan of organized tours, but still decided to give a try to the Castles and West Highlands one. I have absolutely no regret - the tour was amazing! Franziska and Chris were both amazing and enthusiast guides. They're both great story tellers and driving through the highlands with scottish music in the background was simply wonderful!... More

Brilliant company running small group tours. Our guide Craig was insanely knowledgeable, as well as very flexible as he did his best to make sure we all had our dream trip! The accommodation was lovely and exactly what I'd expected from their description. Would absolutely travel with them again.

We took three tours with Rabbies in early January and were not disappointed. All three guides (Ewan B, Gail and Fran) were outstanding and so enthusiastic about their subject matter that you really felt you were being shown around by a mate who wants to share their favourite locations and stories with you. We'll definitely take another tour with Rabbies... More

I was visiting from Canada spur of the moment and thankfully Rabbies had room on a tour to see Stirling Castle. Sometimes it's just nice to sit and relax and let someone else drive for a bit. Francesca was the guide for the day, and she was very enthusiastic about scottish history and the land and it showed the whole... More

I'd highly recommend Rabbie's. My friend and I joined a distillery tour and were very impressed with the operator. Our guide, Fran was amazingly energetic, and extremely accommodating. We were also directed to some of the best views of the area.

We booked three tours with Rabbies based on all their good reviews. The first was the City tour which was OK. You wear a headset and a prerecorded tape plays to tell where you are. Luckily, we did this short tour first as my husband is tall and could not fit his legs in the seat. The only seat his... More

We made the 3 days tour to Highlands in January, during the Winter. It was a perfect surprise! Audrey stayed 3 days with us, she is pacient, funny, cooperative and is a wonderful storyteller! Her best stories started with "don't mess with the fairies!". We stayed in B&B, it was the first time, another surprise! The colonial breakfast made by... More

We did the West Highland Loch and Castles tour with Aaron Morr (Mhor ?) in january the 16th. We absolutely had the best time of our holidays. Aarron is a great guide : he's informative, very friendly, he knows how to entertain with his tales. He knows when to put to the right music that goes with the landscapes. As... More

This is a great way to see The Highlands, Glencoe and Loch Ness! Our tour guide Aaron Mohr was fantastic. He was informative and very friendly. By the end of the day, we all became close! That only happens with the right tour guide! Bravo Aaron and thanks for making this adventure so enjoyable! Aaron should have his own "like"... More

Ewan McCleod was an excellent guide. He made us laugh, made us think, made us laugh again. He told stories, played music, told of history, folk tales, etc. You will learn more on this trip than you will in any classroom. The day was long over 11 hours but it felt like it was over in a blink. This was... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
