Neighbourhood: New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Well worth dropping in here as here are some excellent, albeit expensive shops. Harvey Nic's is just around the corner if you really fancy splashing out or want a break over a cocktail in the bar.

We like this part of this designer shopping area of Edinburgh. Love all the high end shops and eateries. Lovely fresh feel to it to, in fact our favourite shopping area of Edinburgh. Always recommend a visit here.

Most of the shops in Edinburgh were full of tourist cheap tat or normal high street shops. The decent shops are all here. Lovely choice of stores.

Very disappointing, avoid. Bought two suits here that required small alterations. Had to bring one of the suits back multiple times to have them done correctly. Was promised a store credit to compensate for the inconvenience, however when I went back recently there was ‘no record’ of it... emailed to ask for clarification but no reply. Not only poor service in the first place but compounded with what appears to be duplicity.

If you love your designer brands Multrees Walk is where you need to shop in Edinburgh. Home to Harvey Nichols, Louis Vuitton, Michael Kors, Mulberry, Hugo Boss to name a few. Burberry looks like it is opening soon also. Located at the east end of George Street this modern pedestrian street is worth a visit.

I used to live very near by here so I would walk through a lot. It is very clean and well kept and the stores on this street are on the upper end of the market. Always bright and cheerful looking.
