Guide was uncharismatic and grouchy. His pandering for tips, inability to engage with his audience, and references to his financial situation made the whole experience uncomfortable. I went with a huge fan of Rebus who was disappointed with the quality of the material and the...More

The tour goes around a very limited area and touches only a few of the key locations from Rebus books. There is a lot (too much) of literary context setting and lecturing about authors other than Ian Rankin. The guide had little charisma. He made...More

I am a big fan of Ian Rankin and consequently John Rebus. The tour was quite well organized, stayed within a fairly confined space [you didn't have to wander all over the place] and it didn't rain!. You hit the high points of many Rebus...More

You are told to 'bring a sense of humour' - in other words a thick skin, particularly if you're American, or otherwise not Scottish, unfamiliar with Rebus or Scottish history or happened to have simply turned up with no more than a sense of curiosity....More

If you like Ian Rankin’s Rebus then this is the tour for you. The lovely guide Colin is madder than Mad McJack who won last year’s Mad Competition but is an absolute gem who brilliantly conveys the spirit of Rebus’ Edinburgh. Colin is utterly professional...More

Absolutely a must if you are an Ian Rankin fan and wonderful fun even if you haven’t read the books. (You will after this tour). Clive is a wonderful storyteller and historian. The world of Rebus mixed with history of Edinburgh is a real treat!...More

This is hands down the worst tour I’ve ever been on in my life. If you love Rebus or Rankin, stay away. If you like Edinburgh, know Edinburgh, or don’t know Edinburgh, stay away. If you want to hear Japanese people called “Japs”, people who...More

Thank you Colin! We were a large group from the states, and Colin was professional and personable from the beginning. He helped us book the tour and returned several emails before our trip. The tour went far beyond a “script,” and we all left Edinburgh...More

Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its
labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests
this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly
visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers
that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the
place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as
the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal
Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the
