We did the free tour on a Sunday night and had John as our guide. He was funny and informative, and the stories were quite interesting. We tipped him at the end as we feel he earnt it!

After dinner we happened to be walking by just as it started, so we decided to join in. Was informative and educational. Not meant to be scary. My wife and I enjoyed it and you tip at the end.
