About
This historic building is steeped in history. It dates back to the 1850s, when it was the station master’s lodge and the history and heritage live on. Today, The Jigger Inn is home to golfing memorabilia, crackling open-hearth fires, home-cooked food and a superb selection of Scottish beers – this is traditional Scottish pub hospitality at its very best. Fondly referred to as ‘the towns best 19th hole’ and much loved by the many celebrities who visit.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

After a very nice visit to the Road Hole Bar upstairs we popped into Jigger for a couple of drinks before dinner . Even standing at the bar with nobody else to serve we were ignored ? After several attempts the stroppy young boy who thinks it is more important to wash glasses etc nearly lifted his head and served us . Most people who have been at this hotel will know it's not the cheapest in Scotland and now it can be added to the list of not the service expected in a 5* hotel .

Lovely setting, friendly and welcome staff. I ordered cheesy garlic bread with my meal. When it arrived it was slices of bread with gloopy cheese on top and couldn't taste or see any garlic. Basically it was cheese on toast, not what I expected. My husband ordered garlic bread, which was the same. Everyone else in our group enjoyed their meal, but again mine unfortunately was not great. I had the risotto with chicken which was overcooked and all i could taste was tomato. Couldn't taste any herbs or seasoning either. I did mention it to the waitress, but no feedback given or money off. A waste of money unfortunately 😕

Had dinner and drinks at the Jiggers Inn On Saturday. Food and drinks were great but to be honest the overall experience was a bit disappointing. For a company of such means, the outdoor dining setup is terrible. 4 heaters shared between many more tables. Difficult times, but not much imagination or effort shown in my opinion when comparing to other establishments visited.

We are staying here tonight to celebrate our my brothers 50 th birthday. What a great day we have had until we are in the jigger inn, we ask for more drinks and are refused! Yes we have had drinks all day- but by no manner or means are we intoxicated. Yes we have had 5 rounds of drinks but we are all in good spirits and not drunk!
We are refused drinks from Esther, we ask why? And are asked to leave? One of our party then questions this and is asked to leave the hotel! After numerous stays at this hotel - will we be back? - certainly not!!! Would I recommend- certainly not!!! Unless you decide you would like to come to St. Andrews and and have any alcoholic drinks!! Very disappointed!!!

I'm so impressed! My husband and I stayed at the old course in the end of November. I have never been to Scotland before, let me just say "the jigger inn" a pub attached to the old course made my trip. I had so many plans to walk about see sights and enjoy all of my surroundings....I was unable to do so after my husband met Esther in the pub , she was the bartender, yet did everything ! My husband called me down to meet her, what a lovely woman! So much fun, we. Never left. We basically spent are whole trip in there just to have amazing conversation with Esther. . I do not even drink alcohol and she made me feel so welcome. Fantastic service! Esther ran around working so hard, yet always attending to our needs .i highly recommend anyone who is blessed enough to be in the vicinity you must experience this pub!

Was having a look around St Andrews a few weeks prior to the 2015 Open and decided to pop into the Jigger for a beer and light lunch. Very welcoming, good quality food, given the location was never going to be the cheapest, but a cracking pub.

Unfortunately, our visit here was ruined by the manner of the service we received from our server.
The place itself was very busy and there was 19 of us. We are all an easy going bunch and we were happy to be scattered in small groups throughout the Inn. We made it clear we were happy to have separate bills for each table and some of us proceeded to order drinks at the bar.
The waitress told two of our group to sit down and she would be over to take their drinks order. They tried to explain that they didn't want the drinks on the food bill and were happy to wait at the bar to be served. She was having none of it and immediately sent them back to their table.
My group managed to order and pay for our tables drinks at the bar. The staff were very slow and seemed to struggle with taking more than one order at a time. The waitress seemed very irritated with us ordering and paying directly at the bar. We all noticed the staff beginning to get slower and at one point have their backs to all customers waiting to order.
My particular table ordered our food and noticed she wasn't writing down the orders. When the food came out my order hadn't gone to the kitchen and I was told it was because I had ordered at another table. This of course was not true but her tone was both argumentative and aggressive so we didn't bother getting involved with it.
When we ordered the bill, it came out with additional food items and a number of drinks we hadn't ordered. When we challenged the bill, we were told it was our fault and that because we had been ordering our drinks at the bar she had no way of working out how many we had. I pointed out that we were paying for them at the bar as we ordered so there should be no drinks on the bill at all. Her response was to not respond and walk off.
The bill came back correctly and we decided we wouldn't bother having anymore drinks there which was a pity and headed into the town for the rest of the evening.

I was introduced to the jiggers by my now late father in law as a must "pint" when visiting St Andrews. I grew quite fond of it over the years, but over the last few It became a bitter (pun intended) disappointment. The menu became more sparse in quality and prices hiked to fleece the uninformed or those who part easily with money. On my latest visit I'm quite sure I felt a trickle of blood from my nose from being mugged at the till for a meagre meal and a few rounds of drinks.
I hope and yearn that one day a manager will come along to this establishment and re-vitalise what it was in years past, perhaps less viable to the money machine of "the old course" but a better feeling place to be.

Dear Guest
Thank you for taking the time to review your recent experience at The Jigger
I was particularly disappointed that you did not enjoy your time at the Jigger. We pride ourselves on offering a delicious locally sourced menu and our pricing structure is very much in line with comparable good Pubs in St Andrews. Obviously, I am disappointed that you do not feel this to be the case.
I do hope that you will return to The Jigger and enjoy our unique experience on the edge of The Old Course.
Kind regards,
Daniel Pereira
