This place was even better than we had thought . Little car park from which you go downhill towards the river and suddenly you find an enchanted place. We walked all around, being careful as it's very high and could be dangerous to slip down. The view is awesome. Absolutely to visit.

The gorge is beautiful with water running through it. You can walk inside the gorge and along the water which is great fun.
I'd recommend wearing shoes although we went bare-foot. Some of the stones can be sharp or uncomfortable to walk on, and perhaps could be dangerous without shoes. The water goes up to your thigh so be prepared to get wet.
The gorge has hardly any man-made features so be prepared.
I wouldn't advise young children come or those not physically fit as it is quite a challenge.
There is quite a bit of litter however which is quite sad.

Not for small children , or older adults, unless physically fit. Have spare dry clothes sturdy footwear that can be soaked. ideal to wear swimwear .. cool fresh water surrounded by amazing scenery, fantastic photography opportunity, lush green nature and red stone floor with pebbles and bolders.

Beautiful place but all the negatives outweigh the positives. I’m not sure how or why it has attracted the type that leave cans, bottles, socks, pants and human excrement (and swathes of used loo roll) behind. However, that’s exactly what is all around. And the stupidity of the parking. Today someone went in the deep and cold water (-5 last night), and last I heard police divers were in looking. Not a good outcome. It’s a dangerous gorge. The small area that looks like it might be for parking is not, and says ‘emergency vehicles only’ . This was ignored by visitors thus and the police, mountain rescue and fire brigade struggled for a long time gain access to the incident. Divers last seen looking. So yes, it was a beautiful place, but it’s a dangerous gorge, it’s full of Instagram pouting and posing lads & lasses, there’s little safe parking and the absolute piles of rubbish/wrappers/excrement left by some make it little more than an outside toilet. Sad but true.

Having read some reviews we were nearly put off coming however we were so glad we came.
The descent from the top of the hill down to the river is not for the faint hearted, and then the scramble along the river front to see the beautiful waterfalls is great fun. Prepared to get a little wet but it’s not too deep.
A few tips - There is small car park at the junction but it’s gets bust so try avoid peak lunchtime ish. Wear wellies as it makes it easier to walk in the water. When you arrive ask other people how best to get to the steps that take you down to the waterfall.
Overall it was great fun and took some memorable pictures.

We almost missed this, as there are no obvious signs. We just happened to see something the other side of the estate wall as we drive past. There’s a small lay-by, that takes 2 cars. Otherwise, there’s an area, that can take maybe a dozen cars, at what would appear to be the main entry point, right on the junction of the A809 and the B834. All entry points were locked up, but some kind soul had taken a wood and wire blockade down, just south of where the water runs under the road. Muddy, unsigned path, leads you to the “staircase,” which takes you down into the glen. Unsightly pile of rubbish which needs clearing. The stairs are not for the faint-hearted, and without the rope and tree branches would be nigh-on impossible to negotiate. Making it to the bottom was well worth it, although the water level meant you either had to wade knee-deep to the Devil’s Pulpit area, or view from afar. Other worldly experience. Well worth a look. Be careful though!!

This was my first time visiting Devil's pulpit, I've always wanted to go as I've always thought it looks incredible. The beauty of the place was completely detracted from the sheer amount of rubbish everywhere. I've never seen so much rubbish in a beauty spot, it was like a festival on the last night. Absolutely horrified that people could treat such a magical place with such disregard. Please if you go to spots like this can you take your rubbish/ wet socks / finished cans with you. I know it's a pain carrying it back to your car but leaving no trace is the only way spots like this can stay beautiful

There is no official parking so forced to park on verge on a busy A road with cars travelling past at high speed - very dangerous. Access steep and slippery & incredibly busy - no social distancing. Lots of rubbish left by other visitors (& worse..! 💩) A unique place that has been spoiled by inconsiderate visitors not realising how 'wild' it truly was

It is really busy, there is no where to park. People park alongside the road which is busy and dangerous. You are taking your life in your hands parking on the roadside!! There are just hundreds of people, the litter is terrible it is no longer a beauty spot but a tip. Shame but DO NOT VISIT !! Police are regularly finding people for illegal parking too so beware!

Views are great. Suggest taking a towel and beach shoes as you need to get into the water to go along the water.
It’s quite muddy, you need to take steep stairs to get down. Won’t recommend going with a child.

Where is the best and safest place to park?
Is it suitable to take a dog too?
Thank you!

I saw some people bring dogs. The water can be very cold though.

Yes, if weather is ok.
It’s on an irregular bus route but check out Fist Buses from Glasgow to Balfron/ Stirling.
Taxi from Milngavie is maybe an option.
It’s always busy and clear patches to where you want to get to.

Everyone talks about the treacherous steps going down. How do you get back up?

The same way. There is a rope that can be used to pull yourself up should you need that in the more steep areas. I would recommend wearing good walking boots/shoes to aid your grip. Not a climb up or down for anyone with mobility issues.

I just moved to Glasgow and was wondering if it's possible to drive there on a summer's evening after work and still have the time to see the place fully before it gets dark?

Is there any agency offering guided tours to this place starting from Glasgow? I'll be travelling alone and without a car, I'd like to visit this place with a group/company. Does anybody know one?
Thanks!
