About
Centre for Contemporary Arts is Glasgow's hub for creative activity. The building is steeped in history and the organisation has played a key role in the cultural life of the city for decades. We are proud to contribute to the vibrancy and vitality of Scotland's exciting arts scene. Our year-round programme includes cutting-edge exhibitions, film, music, literature, spoken word, festivals, Gaelic and much more. We have an open-source approach to programming and work with a growing number of partners and individuals to whom we often offer residencies in the building and/or the space to programme their own events. At the heart of all of activities is the desire to work with artists, generate new projects and present them to the widest possible audience. CCA curates six major exhibitions a year, presenting national and international contemporary artists in our gallery space. We are also home to Intermedia Gallery, showcasing emerging artists. Entrance to exhibitions and many events is free. Saramago Cafe Bar offers a relaxed environment and a great menu during the day as well as lively place to hang out in the evenings. Free wi-fi is available throughout the building. Independent shops Aye Aye Books and Welcome Home are located in the entrance area, offering a wide range of publications, craft and design to take home.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I have always loved this venue but on visiting recently noticed that they had put signs up on the toilets. The former ladies are now gender neutral toilets with cubicles’ next door to the former gents, now 'gender neutral toilets with urinals'. I am all for shared facilities and have this at my work (my work building was designed with separate toilet rooms, like lots of disabled toilets, all user neutral and I think that’s great). Sticking up a new sign does not work for me when the facilities weren’t designed for mixed use like this. I am not a fan.

We love the food @ CCA! Especially the vegan haggis!
But service is always a let down... staff are in bad mood most of the time... they take away plates/glasses without saying anything.

Nice visit today. Had the pleasure of attending a third year recital by Niamh Doohan (fiddle) from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and an exhibition by Renee Helena Brown entitled A Strange Eight.

Toilets on first floor now gender-neutral with urinals and cubicles, one walks past the row of urinals to get to the cubicles. I don't believe women and children should have to walk in on men in public mid-urination. Consider, cultural, political and religious difference. Consider also that you are are a licensed venue with late-night events, and indeed behaviour is subject to change under alcohol consumption. The majority of willy-owners wouldn't want to use a urinal when women and children are around I suspect.

I see they've changed the toilets to gender neutral. ie. mixed sex and there are no longer any toilets that females who want to use female-only toilets can use. CCA has lost my custom.

This place is essentially a bar and restaurant, and a place to hang out. This is not a place to actually go to see art. There is limited art here, and to even view the limited items, you have to come at the right time (usually the little they have is closed, while the food/drink is open all day and night)

Avoid this venue like a plague.. totally incompetent and amateurish... paid for a concert by Mike Heron and Trembling Bells (1 Nov 2014) Travelled from Stirling.....no publicity in the venue no sign-age, was told by an officious idiot with a clip board (you know the type?) that, because there was only one event taking place we should know (clairvoyantly) where we should go! The same clown then told us that there were support acts for 2 (TWO!) hours prior to the advertised event.
When Tory ministers rail against the waste of money expended on the Arts... one can only hope they do not encounter the CCA...so frustrating! Most amateur folk clubs are more competent and professional than this glossy façade!

Dear Claona, Many thanks for your feedback, we really appreciate hearing from our audiences and take complaints very seriously. We’re really sorry that you had a poor experience in our venue. We’re aware that signage and way-finding is an issue in the building and we are planning a new digital signage strategy for the next financial year. Please be assured that we are working on improving this. We do have a huge number of events at CCA which are organised by external charitable and voluntary-run organisations – we offer space for free for these groups to bring a varied cultural programme to the building and we apologise that on this occasion there wasn't clearer assistance in locating the event once in our building. The event - The Circle is Unbroken - was advertised by CCA and Ceol's Craic as an evening with performances from a range of folk musicians, not just Mike Heron and The Trembling Bells as headliners. Please let us know if you saw this advertised differently somewhere else. The event doors opened at 7.30pm as advertised and music continued until 11pm, with a variety of acts playing as is common for gigs at CCA and other venues. In regards to the complaint concerning the staff/volunteer this is something we are looking in to internally and not something that we receive complaints about very often. A refund was offered to you on the night and we are still happy to arrange this with the event organiser. If you would like to discuss further please don’t hesitate to get in touch via gen@cca-glasgow.com

Intimate venue for smaller gigs. Great sound too. Also as a bonus has a bar and cafe/restaurant. Toilets spotless too. Friendly staff. No negatives whatsoever.

Paragon a charity who provide a safe place for children and adults of all abilities had a 12 hr Jamathon including an amazing concert. What a day t was, music and dance workshops for anyone and everyone to get the opportunity to try something new. I found the entire experience both educational and very moving. Thank you to Ninian and all his staff and volunteers for all you do for others. Words cannot describe my appreciation. Thank you to CCA for hosting such an event.

I made a special visit to the place as it was highly recommended for vegan and veggie food - and it was fabulous. The choice was amazing - and when it arrived the food did not disappoint. Utterly delicious, fresh and great portions at a very reasonable price. Service was a bit slow but friendly, we were in no hurry so it didn't matter, but would have been frustrating if we had to move quickly! The building itself is lovely too, with the cafe set in the internal courtyard area. We didn't look at the exhibitors, as they were changing over, but we did have a quick browse in the shop (very expensive). For me it was all about the food and it did not disappoint. Loved it.
