The day was hot, the shade under the trees cool. We forgot our water on a day we really needed it. Fascinating cemetery that has a nice little climb to get to the top. The Scottish author, Lin Anderson, set one of her murders here....More

This is an amazing and fascinating place. It pulls in people of all sorts from art lovers to Goths. There are even wild deer living there. If you can, go with a guide who can fill in some of the background to the great Victorian...More

This is a must-see for any lovers of history and/or graveyards. I've always loved graveyards, but this one is definitely a beautiful sight. You can also see a lot of the cityscape of Glasgow if you climb to the top--makes for some great views and...More

At first I was not sure who would want to visit a cemetery. Don’t hesitate. It is like no other cemetery. The view alone is worth the trip but the place itself is just fantastic. So unique.

It’s a nice place to walk through, we can get to the top and even take pictures of a view on Glasgow. You can walk through a bridge to get into the necropolis. Nice place to reflect and have a walk.

Very atmospheric place. You pass the bridge from infirmary and you are already stunned by the view. Quiet walks and old stones, Celtic crucifixes and vaults, and good view of Glasgow from the top of the hill.

Went on the tour with a great historian speaker, was fancinating! Scotland’s industry, grave stone influences of Egypt and Greece... eerie at times. Interesting, beautiful and the endless stories... Give it a go!

We visited the Necropolis after the neighboring Glasgow Cathedral closed for the day. It was a quiet, somber respite after a long day. Fascinating to wander through the Necropolis, reading the tombstones and wondering about the thousands interred there.

No, but you do not need it for the cemetery. For the city it would be appropriate to have but did not find something.

It can be as quick as 20 minutes if you like, or easily as long as 1hr if you prefer to meander through the graves and read some of the stones along the way. Either is rewarding!
