A lot of reviews seem to be talking about the new Victoria Infirmary rather than the old hospital building. A Victorian era building that is about to be transformed into flats, so the area looks like a building site. Although you can still see some of the Victorian architecture.

I am sitting in the Aroma Coffee shop in the infirmary concourse. The surroundings are pleasant enough. The early morning special of £2.95 for a roll with square sausage and a cup of tea seems fair but the pitfalls are soon evident. A small butter pat or sachet of tom sauce is an extra 15p.. Worse still, you open the roll and find a sausage that doesn't even cover half the roll.(See Photo). It looks like the square lorne sausages are being cut in half, in a cost saving effort. Cooking shrinkage only makes matters worse. I've heard of NHS cuts but this is ridiculous. A dry roll with half a sausage and the tea is a cup of hot water with a tea bag flung in it. 2 out of 10. Must do better🙄 …

We found ourselves having to visit at a weekend after partner had a reaction to a small operation. He was invited to attend the out of hours here. The process to get him there was quite lengthy with a lot of calls initially between him and NHS staff that had a three hour wiindow, we felt this process could have been made more simplistic but appreciate how many calls they must take each day. He was given authority to attend, when we arrived it was busier than an airport gate for boarding and we despaired at how long we might be there. However the staff were methodical and efficient and he was seen within 2 hours, the doctor on duty gave him more advice than when he was discharged from hospital and prescribed the necessary medication. The receptionist on duty was just a delight she had a smile for everyone and was extremely helpful to all who attended, she did happen to mention that some patients bring more than 4-8 of their family with them, you can see why the waiting room is so busy. We are all so fortunate that we have the NHS at our discretion to see doctors and nurses. We receive free medication and that no matter what status you have in society they have a duty to put you in order of how Ill you are and they put you first and see you. We should never complain we are privileged to have it and should value every one of our NHS staff and facilities.…

Like most hospitals there are good things and bad about them - and it is pretty much the same things. When you see the doctors they can be pleasant & efficient. However the hanging around in dingy surrounds, daytime TV unable to be heard or turned off in the background, over officious reception staff, lack of information. Would love to have some power in the NHS to make changes - I guess that those that could actually go private and miss out on their own weaknesses!…
