Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This spacious open square is situated in the centre of Glasgow, and is a great place to sit, relax, and people watch.

It is surrounded by statues, old buildings, and, the City Halls are to be found behind the cenotaph.

I like to go to a well known bakers on the other side of the road to get lunch, and sit and chillax, but this time the seating had been removed for a gathering, and was yet to be replaced.

George square is in the centre of glasgow with lots of near by restaurants, pubs, and places to go visit such as the Glasgow City Chambers. It’s is the perfect place to go when it’s a nice sunny day to soak up the sun and scenery. It is definitely a place to go as it as easy and accessible to get to other places

Always a pleasure to spend some time here in George Square particularly on a nice day like today. Not too busy even though it was lunch time with the folk enjoying drinks at the outside seating of Wetherspoons Counting House.

Nearly all the statues heads were occupied by a pooping pigeon or gull (I wonder out often they clean off the droppings ?)

Nice to sit on one of the benches, read a book or simply just people watch !!

Just back from the Winterfest at George Square, what a horrible experience. In particular, the ice skating was a major disappointment. Firstly, you need an adult ticket for anyone over 120cm. The average boy reaches 120cm at six years old!!!

Despite queuing 25 mins before our time slot, we were 10 mins late on the ice due to a lack of staff. The ice was in such a bad state it was almost impossible to skate on, and there was at least twice as many people crammed into a tiny space than there should have been. Avoid if you have the chance :(

George Square use to have beautiful old trees surrounding the perimetre and every Christmas the square looked elegant with all the pretty decorations. We would always take a trip into the city to see the square and the trees were always a focal point with their lovely twinkling fairy lights. Fast forward to Dec 2023, the Square is unrecognisable. The trees have been replaced with concrete and it looks cheap and nasty with horrible gory decorations and a carnival. Its criminal what has been allowed and whoever authorised the removal of the trees should have been sacked. George sq now looks like Las Vegas or Blackpool. Horrid !!!

George Square is a nice place to spend some time while in Glasgow. The square is beautiful and centrally located. The best feature of the square is the many historically important statues. Queen Victoria, Sir Walter Scott, Robert Burns, and other Scottish heroes are featured there. Take advantage of the many photo opportunities!

We stayed a few days at a hotel nearby in November 2019 and got to enjoy George Square decorated for Christmas. It was lovely. Full of lights and food, art and gift vendors. The ambiance was friendly and safe (even at night), with mostly couples and families. If you are in Glasgow (specially during the holidays), it's a nice place to spend a few hours.

In the center of Glasgow. Surrounded by landmark buildings. Has several statues of people that I didn't really know who they were (all with pigeon poop on top). A big monument in the middle. Many benches. In May, lots of flowering plants. No grassy areas though. Great for just taking it all in.

To have space - or at least the sense of space - in a city is a precious thing. George Square offers this to Glasgow in real tangible empty oblongness. Always something going on, plenty of folk milling about, and a Greggs over the road. A great space.

Great spot for people watching. It's busy but spacious enough to find a patch of grass in good weather or a spot on a bench. The pigeons are quite entertaining and like flying about together over your head! Would recommend resting here a while if you're in the city centre.
