Voltaire & Rousseau is a charming second hand bookshop tucked away in a lovely area of Glasgow. The bookshop is bigger than I expected with thousands of books so if you plan on visiting, give yourself plenty of time to rummage.

Second hand bookstore

The area is rather small plus the titles are a little mixed
The variety is very good and the outlet is close by to many nice cafes
The book prices are extraordinarily low , so one can buy in bulk

Good book selection

Scruffy area and no access to the river. The bookshop was smaller than I'd expected; the adjacent building is a second hand record store. As many have noted the whole place has got away from the owner, but there is a tiny bit of order left. A lovely shop.

So many books!
Jul 2018 • Couples
Books from floor to ceiling, with lots of interesting stuff and at very low prices. We wandered out again with four bags of books and wallet only a little lighter. I could have stayed longer and probably caused more book avalanches but we reached what we could comfortably carry...

Students, authors, journalists, book collectors and general browsers make up the kind of variety of people who come into the shop. Its a fantastic honeyhole, with an vast selection of books, be ready to dig. All at excellent prices!

The photos give you a good clue what it is like. There are a lot of books and one of the loveliest, friendliest booksellers you will ever meet.

You really don't see bookshops like this any more!
Slightly off the beaten track, and not somewhere to negotiate if you have a lot of bags with you - books are crammed and piled into every available space.
There is a general order, though you have to have a good hunt through to get any kind of idea what is in stock. Not large, but still a place to take your time in.
Prices are on the low side, and service was knowledgeable - one of the gentlemen who runs it was even able to recommend a bookshop in my home area.

An incredible selection of books! Hard to imagine how you could really browse the stock as it is mostly quite inaccessible, but I suspect the owners are very familiar with the stock.

My Idea Of Heaven.
Nov 2016 • Couples
My second visit to this quirky little book shop. Came here with my husband on the 21st of November. A trip we had planned in advance to celebrate my 30th birthday. I am obsessed with books. A book junkie if you will. (Like I say to my husband... Be thankful I spend all my money on books and not drugs or alcohol 😜) This shop is the most incredible place. There is no, or very little, order in how the books are categorised and priced. Indeed, many of the books are piled mountainously in piles on the floor. Prices are cheap and there are some really stunning editions at exceptionally reasonable prices. We left after browsing for an hour or so and our wallets were about £100 lighter. 😳 Highly recommend this jewel of a bookshop.
