My assault on the WHW started at Tyndrum following some wild camping at Corrour. Only walked two legs (no pun intended!) and that was unplanned so basically I was winging it, with nothing booked and all alone, but as prepared as possible, i.e. with full camping gear so not dependent on B and B's. However by this time I was... More

I walked the West Highland Way from Drymen to Fort William in late September with my 2 sons (14 and 20). It was a terrific experience for me to do with the boys and not only did we experience the wonderful Scottish scenery, we met great people, had lots of laughs and came away the better for it. We had... More

This whole trip is what I'd consider a must. Go and do some Research before you go unlike me who went with a full luggage backpack combo kind of thing carried too much over the terrain and was too stubborn to take help when it was offered. Use the pick up drop luggage system (AMS is what I used after... More

This was my first long hike but has given me the bug so I'm already planning my next. The West Highland Way is a fantastic way to see parts of Scotland you'd never reach any other way. While there are spots long roads or less remote than some might like but the majority is well off the beaten path with... More

We're both 50+ and walked the WHW over 8 days at the end of Sept / beginning of Oct. I'll keep it short and just give a few bits of information we picked up along the way. 1. If you're driving to the start ( we went South to North), the Milngavie Premier Inn is a great place to stay.... More

I done this for charity. The scenery is great but can be challenging depending on weather conditions. Make sure plan your route correctly so that you have enough time to get from campsite to campsite before dark. Try not to carry to much load in your backpack. Ensure take camera as I lost a lot of photo opportunity with no... More

Hello! I have just got back from walking the way South to North. I thought this may be useful for other solo hikers / campers thinking of doing it. I'm female, 31 and did it solo as I wanted the challenge and the solitude. Well it was a challenge and sometimes solitary but actually I met so many nice people... More

Hi, Just a basic review of my solo 7 day walk on the WHW in September 2016. 1. Premier Inn Hotel located in Milngavie was a good hotel for the night before, helpful staff and good quality quiet room. 2. Couldn't find tourist information office in Milngavie...possibly closed? The start is located in the middle of the town centre. All usual... More

As slightly older travellers we decided to spend 8 days walking the WHW and it was superb ! Taking it easy allows time for photos, coffee stops and ensures you reach your accommodation at a reasonable time in the evening. Definitely use a baggage transfer service - we used GingerRoutes who were excellent. We found the hardest stretches to be... More
