We met our guide, Dave, last saturday morning for 2 days of mountaineering /scottish climbing. From the get go he was super friendly, knowledgeable and adaptable in terms of what we wanted to get from the weekend. He covered navigation, understanding snow forecasts and conditions, use of crampons and ice axes, ice climbs, rope work, knots, belays and anchor placement, with as much practical application as possible. My friend and I picked things up fairly quickly and Dave was good in replanning the day based on our progress. This meant on the first afternoon we could do a graded climb, and then a harder graded climb on the second day. I'd absolutely recommend Stewart Mountain skills to anyone whos interested in a practical, informative and fun weekend.…

Dave was an epic and friendly guide who was able to dynamically tailor our two-day trip in the Cairngorms based on our skill levels, what we wanted to learn, and the ever-changing weather conditions. His explanations of proper technique and how to safely approach a climb left us both feeling a lot more ready for further mountaineering than when we arrived. Would definitely recommend and look up SMS if we're ever back in Aviemore!…

I booked up for two days' 1-1 mountaineering training. Right from the start it was obvious that Tom, my guide, had not only the knowledge to deliver the training but had also carried out extensive research and planning to ensure the two days were the absolute best they could be. Despite challenging weather and snow conditions, Tom managed to find a great spot for the training, and delivered exactly the skills I was after. I've now got lots to take away and put into practice and feel much more confident out on the hills. I would highly recommend Stewart Mountain Skills to anyone looking to improve their skills on the mountains.…

This is the second time I've climbed with Ian and again I had a fantastic time. Very easy to book and Ian met us at our B&B which allowed us to talk through our options for the most suitable routes / areas to climb for our day. Ian is a very talented guide who is always well prepared and his extensive knowledge of the area means he could tailor the day to meet exactly what we wanted to achieve. On top of the fact he is very good at his job, Ian is also great company which really makes the difference. I certainly plan on using Ian (Stewart Mountain Skills) again in the future as a way of improving my climbing grade and learning new skills…

Being short on time we needed to make the best of a less than favourable few days of weather on the hill. Ian's intimate knowledge of the crags extracted every last ounce of potential from the day, we actually manged to complete two lines, which given the weather was not expected. In total I have had the pleasure of climbing with Ian for 6 full days now, each one I have learnt and developed as a winter climber thanks to Ian's professionalism and high standards. Cant wait until next season, I will defiantly be back!…
